Enjoy a back to school mother/daughter movie night watching “” with a yummy Pop Secret popcorn snack served up in adorable Apple Pouches!
The kids are back in school and we’re all trying to get into a new routine! I miss them while they’re gone, but I love witnessing them learn and grow! I live for the stories they tell when they come through the door. It makes me so happy to see them thriving in that environment!
We have a few traditions that we do as a family within the first few weeks of the school year, but I decided to start a new one this time around! My kids love having one-on-one time with me. It seems like it doesn’t happen often enough, especially with four kiddos! My tween daughter in particular seems to get the short end of the stick when it comes to getting my full, undivided attention. Being the oldest has its perks, but it can be hard sometimes too!
So we had a spur-of-the-moment movie date together at home and prepared by making some cute Apple Pouches that we filled with Pop Secret popcorn to snack on while watching! It was a double whammy of fun…craft time and movie time!
She really enjoys “Spirit Riding Free” on Netflix, so we had a movie marathon, watching our favorite episodes. Did you know “Spirit Riding Free” Season 6 hits Netflix on August 17th?! We are ecstatic about it!
If you haven’t seen Spirit Riding Free, I’ll give you a quick run-down. It’s such a cute show! During the 19th century, a twelve-year-old girl named Lucky moves from the city and finds a wild mustang named Spirit. The horse is caught by wranglers and brought to be “broken”. Lucky befriends the stallion and eventually frees him. Lucky meets two other girls her age who also own horses and they go on adventures together.
Go to find out more about the show. And go for some fun “Spirit Riding Free” activities!
We just can’t watch a movie without munching on Pop Secret popcorn! It has an unbeatable fantastic butter taste and provides a delicious excuse to have FUN making memories with loved ones, no matter the occasion!
We snagged a package at Walmart in preparation for our mother/daughter evening!
These Apple Snack Pouches are so perfect for a Back to School “Spirit Riding Free” watching party! We even used a real leaf sprig to adorn ours, but you can of course make one out of paper if you’d rather.
We filled it to the brim and beyond with tasty Pop Secret popcorn!
It’s so simple to make! Here’s how:
You’ll need:
Red 9″ Paper Plates (for durability)
An apple shape to trace on the paper plates (we found one online, but you can also free-hand one if you’d like). Ours measured about 6″ across at the widest part and 6″ tall. *Tip: You can copy and paste free apple clipart into a word document or other editor and stretch it to size before printing.
Yarn or baker’s twine
Glue Gun
Hole Punch
Real Leaf Sprigs (we cut some from our front-yard bush) or Green Paper to make your own
Start by tracing your apple shape onto the back of two red paper plates (so the trace lines won’t show on the red portion). You’ll want your apple shape to be as symmetrical as possible so the two sides will match up nicely. But you can always trim them to size, if necessary. Cut out the apple shapes and put them together so the red sides are facing out. Punch an even number of holes all the way around, leaving enough of the top portion open so you can easily fill it (about 1 1/2″-2″).
Now thread your yarn or twine through the holes and knot it in the back. Trim the ends of the string or yarn. Hot glue your leaf sprig to the front middle piece of your apple on the back side.
Now fill the cute apple pouches with Pop Secret popcorn to snack on while enjoying a fun movie party to celebrate the fresh start of an exciting school year ahead!
Have your kids started school yet? What are your favorite back to school traditions with them? I’d love to hear!
