Awesome Chocolate Chip Cookies

Everyone needs a tasty chocolate chip cookie recipe in their files.  It’s just one of those classic, go-to treats when you need to fulfill a sweet tooth craving.  I don’t think there has ever been a time in my life when chocolate chip cookies didn’t sound good.

I switch between two chocolate chip cookie recipes because they are both equally awesome.  Today I will share the one that I grew up eating, and I’ll post the other one at a later time.  I love these cookies, too, because you can add in different colored M&M’s to tailor them to different holidays.

I have to give a shout-out to my wonderful sister, Melissa, who kindly agreed to make these and take pictures for me.  🙂  She seriously has the magic touch with these things.  When Melissa makes them, they just taste extra yummy.  For that reason she was (whether she liked it or not) the chocolate chip cookie maker in our family growing up.

These are chewy, chocolate-y, and completely yumm-a-licious!

{Awesome Chocolate Chip Cookies}
Yield: About 3 dozen
1 cup shortening

3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp water

Mix wet ingredients just until combined.
In a separate bowl stir together:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

Add dry ingredients to wet. Mix just until combined. Do not over mix! Add as many chocolate chips (and chopped nuts, optional) as you like.
If dough is sticky you can add up to 4 more tsp of flour. (I did not when making these.) Roll into walnut sized balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for no more than 9 minutes.
Cookies will set up upon cooling.
There’s a good chance that these “Awesome Chocolate Chip Cookies” will become your new favorites!
