Candy Cane Kiss Sugar Cookie Bars

Christmas is almost here and what better way to celebrate than with these festive Candy Cane Kiss Sugar Cookie Bars! They’re so soft, yummy, and loaded with tasty Candy Cane Kiss candies!

Have you finished all your shopping and wrapping? I’m happy to report that I’m almost done! I like to get it out of the way early enough that I can still enjoy the season. I had to step into a few stores the other day and regretted it. Everyone is out and about finding that last minute gift! Which is one reason why I do most of my shopping online. 🙂

So instead of fighting the crowds and waiting in long lines, you’ll find me in the kitchen over the next few weeks, baking up a storm! It’s my happy place!

This week, I’ve got to put together my neighbor goodie platters. I thought I already knew what was going on them this year, but now I think I might need to slip these delicious Candy Cane Kiss Sugar Cookie Bars on too!

Are you obsessed with Candy Cane Kisses too? I bought a bag last week and it was gone in less than two days. The kids attacked it and so did I, haha! I added them into the sugar cookie dough and then sprinkled them on top! I know you’re going to love these!

I started out thinking I was going to make Candy Cane Kiss Cookies. Then, after making up the dough, I knew it would be so much easier and just as yummy to press them into a baking sheet and turn them into bars!

You can add a vanilla or peppermint buttercream frosting instead of the glaze, if you wish, but I think the glaze adds the perfect finishing touch! Although, next time I make these, I may try the frosting option. 🙂 Both varieties are so yummy!

I love the soft sugar cookie base that has a hint of peppermint from the peppermint extract and candy kisses. Just make sure you don’t over bake these or they’ll get dry and crumbly really quick! You don’t want the edges to turn brown at all. Set the timer for around 9 or 10 minutes and check them often.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter softened slightly
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 c. sour cream
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 25 Candy Cane Kisses for the dough plus at least 12 more for the topping (unwrapped and chopped)
  • Glaze:
  • 2 c. powdered sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. milk or just enough for thinning

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a half sheet pan (18 in. by 13 in.).
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, peppermint extract, eggs, and sour cream. Small lumps of butter will still remain.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add flour mixture to the wet mixture and mix just until combined, scraping down the sides as necessary. Just before it is finished mixing, add the 25 chopped candy cane kisses and quickly mix it in. Don't over mix after adding the flour mixture!
  • Press the dough evenly into the greased half sheet pan.
  • Bake for approximately 10-12 minutes. Don't overbake or they'll be dry! Set the timer for 9 minutes and check often.
  • Let them cool completely, then prepare the glaze. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth and drizzling consistency. Drizzle evenly over the cooled bars. Immediately sprinkle with the additional 12 chopped Candy Cane Kisses. Slice into bars and serve.

I hope you are enjoying this holiday season! What is your favorite thing to bake during Christmas time?

Yum! I love every dessert of yours that I make, so I'm sure these are amazing! I've got sugar cookie dough in the fridge right now but now I'm thinking Santa might need a few of these, too!
