If you’re looking for creative, handmade Valentine ideas for your kids to give out, this Clothespin Alligator “Crunch” Valentine is just the thing!
It’s adorable and really simple to put together, at least when it comes to hand-crafted Valentines.
I happened to bring a suitcase full of craft supplies to our vacation in Park City, UT over winter break. 🙂 I couldn’t help myself. I starve for a creative outlet if I’m away from it for too long. I didn’t have any project ideas while packing, so I kind of just brought random items, hoping that I could somehow put them together into something pretty later. 🙂
And so, the Clothespin Alligator Valentine was born. I got to thinking…how cute would an alligator be in pink and red with hearts? Needless to say, these little guys have stolen my heart. Sorry, Mr. I Dig Pinterest. 🙂
I love when things turn out like I envision them from the beginning!
To make these, you’ll simply give your clothespins a coat of acrylic paint, let dry, then glue on googly eyes, mini paper hearts (made easier if you use a punch), and finally paper teeth. Be sure to paint in all the nooks and crannies of the clothespin. I used school glue for everything.
If you have patterned scissors with a jagged edge, this is a great time to use them! If not, just cut the design by hand. It’s easy either way. Let the kids help in the construction process! They’ll have a blast and be even prouder when they get to give these fun Valentines away.
Then, fill some small bags (I found mine in the jewelry section at Walmart) with mini Crunch bars, clip the tags on with the alligators, and you’re good to go! The kids can write To: and From: on the back of the tags, if they’d like.
This is such a perfect school Valentine idea! I can’t wait to hear how my daughter’s classmates react when they see them during the exchange! You could substitute a mini calculator in for the candy, if you’d like. It’s cute either way!
