Halloween Oreo Cake Bars

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

One of the things I most look forward to about Halloween is baking spooky treats, so I’ve created some perfectly soft, festive black and orange Halloween Oreo Cake Bars!

And let me tell you…they are GOOD!  What makes them even better is the fact that I saved money on the ingredients by shopping at Dollar General!

We all know how expensive life can get when there are kids’ costumes to buy, school fundraiser carnivals to attend, pumpkin patches to visit and parties to throw. Things add up quick!

My family always looks forward to our annual visit to the pumpkin patch, but when we get there, it’s not just about the pumpkins.  We have to have the handmade fudge, kettle corn, and of course lunch too.  By the time we’ve had our fun, our pockets have lightened up quite a bit.  🙂

But by saving a little here and there on things I’m going to buy anyway (i.e. oodles of baking supplies), we end up having more to spend while we’re making memories during the Halloween season!

Dollar General has a plethora of Halloween baking supplies for a bargain!  I seriously felt like I was cheating the store when I walked out with my two heavy bags filled with holiday treasures for a steal of a price.
Halloween at Dollar General is dreamy!  I couldn’t get enough of the cute orange and black candies, napkins, ribbon, and goody bags!  I also stocked up on loot for the trick-or-treaters and saved some cash.  I love it when that happens!
I was basically in Halloween heaven at Dollar General.  I was shopping with my two-year-old, so her baby alarm (i.e. toddler fit) let me know that I had been there way too long.  🙂

But look what came of it.  These cake bars are perfect for a Halloween party or just a fun snack to get the kiddos excited for the big day.  Either way, they are soft and super sweet with a wonderful crunch from the Halloween Oreos. Yummy in my tummy!

{HALLOWEEN OREO CAKE BARS}
Adapted from Sally’s Baking Addiction
1 pkg. Halloween Oreos
Halloween Funfetti Cake Mix (15.25 oz.)
1 egg
1/4 c. oil (Canola or Vegetable)
1/4 c. milk
Start by spraying a 9″x9″ baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.  Cover the bottom with Oreos.  I used 16 cookies.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, mix together cake mix, egg, oil and milk.  Batter will be thick.
Spread or more like press the batter on top of the Oreos.  I just used my hands because it was easier that way.  The Oreos will want to come up and move around, but just do your best to work the batter towards the edges while keeping the cookies in place.

You can see those cute black and orange sprinkles from the Funfetti.

Now crush up about 7 more Oreos and press them on top of the batter.  Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 20-25 minutes.

Then you’ll have pure delight in dessert form!
I took it a step further and put together a simple Halloween-themed gift with my Dollar General supplies.  I cut the bars small and put a few in, along with some pumpkin face gumballs and festive Sixlets.  I tied it with a piece of adorable “Boo to You” ribbon.  This would be a perfect way to “BOO” your neighbor!
These bars are completely delicious!  I hope you enjoy them too!Happy Halloween and possibly even better…happy baking!

Do you think these could be made with the Halloween Funfetti sugar cookie mix with candy bits? It's 17.5 oz...I am trying to figure out the difference between the cake mix and the cookie mix.

Hmmmmm...good question, Chelsea. I think it should be fine. I would give it a try. You may need to add a little more milk, though. I'd love to hear how it goes!

If I double the batch to bake in a 13x9 pan should I double the baking time too?
