Send the kids off to catch the bus with this warm overnight Ham, Egg & Cheese Pull-Apart (a.k.a. Monkey) Bread in hand! It’s a breakfast everyone’s sure to love!
My kids start school in two days! I’m still in denial about it. I’m sitting the fence between being sad to see summer break gone and being excited for them to make new friends, meet new teachers and have a fresh new start at learning.
One thing my kids are very adamant about is having a warm breakfast, no matter what the time of year. They end up eating better and staying full for longer this way, so I do my best to satisfy their demands in this area. 🙂
But, this becomes more difficult when we’re trying to get everyone ready, out the door, and sitting at their desks before that tardy bell rings.
You know the early morning scuffle and scramble that happens on a school day. No matter how prepared I think I am, there’s always that last minute reading calendar to sign, a surprise homework sheet that didn’t get done, or the shoe that can’t be found.
But, no matter how crazy things get, I’m always up for a challenge in the breakfast department if it means that my kids will actually feel satisfied and focused until lunch time and this ham, egg, and cheese bake works magic like that!
So, in order to avoid having to set my alarm earlier, I came up with a solution that provides breakfast in a snap while giving the kids the warm, comforting homemade feel-goods they can’t seem to do without.
The school girls and boys will be all smiles with this for a morning meal!
I mean, how can you go wrong with oven-baked biscuits, eggs, ham and melty cheese, especially when it’s meant to grab and run?! It’s a major win in my book and the kids gave it two thumbs way up. So we’ll be enjoying this often throughout the coming busy school year.
{MAKE AHEAD HAM, EGG AND CHEESE PULL-APART BREAD}
Adapted from The Seasoned Mom
6 large eggs
1/4 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. chives
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
2 cans (16 oz. each) refrigerated biscuit dough (cut each biscuit into fourths)
7 slices Castle Wood Reserve® Natural Sharp Cheddar Cheese, divided
8 slices Castle Wood Reserve® Honey Ham, divided
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, beat eggs with a fork. Add milk, salt, pepper, chives, onion powder and garlic powder and beat together with a fork. Add biscuits and carefully toss to coat in egg mixture. Prepare a baking dish by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray. Pour half the biscuit and egg mixture in the bottom of the dish, top with 5 slices of Castle Wood Reserve® Natural Sharp Cheddar Cheese, then 5 slices of Castle Wood Reserve® Honey Ham. Pour remaining biscuit and egg mixture over the top. Dice 2 slices of Castle Wood Reserve® Natural Sharp Cheddar Cheese and 3 slices of Castle Wood Reserve® Honey Ham and sprinkle over the top.
You can opt to bake it immediately or cover it with foil and place it in the refrigerator over night and bake it in the morning. Bake for approximately 30-35 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown on top and not doughy. Serve warm.
This dish would not be complete without the star players-Castle Wood Reserve® Honey Ham and Natural Sharp Cheddar Cheese!
I admit that I “sampled” a few slices of these as I was prepping because they’re that yummy, even on their own! They provide that premium taste I’m going for but at a great value! And, they contain no MSG, are Trans-fat Free and Gluten Free too!
Plus, they’re fancy enough to dress up a meal for guests or simple enough to send in the kids’ lunch box. I’m all about versatile!
Castle Wood Reserve® products are easy to find near the deli section at Walmart.
Earn $1.75 on Castle Wood Reserve® meat with this Ibotta and $0.50 on Castle Wood Reserve® cheese with this Ibotta, and $0.75 bonus for purchasing both. Available Aug. 3rd through Oct. 31st, or while supplies last.
Don’t rule this out for brinner, either! We love to have breakfast for dinner at least once a week because it’s easy and tasty!
This delightful hodge-podge can be prepared the evening before and then quickly popped in the oven while going about the before-school morning routine with the kids. Then, if the time is short, these little delights are perfect for downing on-the-go!
What are your kids’ favorite easy, warm breakfast ideas? I’d love to hear!
