Winter Beauty Routine: Makeup Tips to Help Combat Dry Skin

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.
Let me start by saying that I’m no makeup expert.  However, I love to wear it and I’m a firm believer in its magical abilities to transform and beautify.  So today I’m sharing a makeup tutorial and tips for the winter months!

A little makeup can go a long way to enabling a woman to feel awake, refreshed, and most important-pretty!  Makeup literally makes me feel happy!  How about you?I’m just not ready to conquer the day, and I usually don’t leave the house, unless I’ve accomplished my morning beauty routine.  I’ve abbreviated the process by a lot after having children, so I can usually do it in under 10 minutes.  (My husband never thought the day would come.)  That being said, I’m not opposed to the occasional grocery trip in my sweats and foundation-less face.  Life gets crazy, and there’s nothing wrong with sporting the natural beauty look when the day demands.

I have my beauty routine down to a science, but winters here are brutal!  Because of the ever dry air, I’m forced to throw my normal procedures out the window when the cold temps arrive to suck even more moisture away.  Is it like that where you are?
One thing’s for sure, though, it’s a great excuse to go shopping!

I love Walgreens for many reasons, but the cosmetic aisle is my number one. 🙂  I’m like a kid in a candy store there.  So many colors and varieties to choose from!  I could literally spend all day at this place if I didn’t have the kiddos with me running amok. 🙂
I found some fantastic treasures during my last trip to Walgreens to help counter the unfortunate effects of winter on my skin.   Meet the amazing players.
1. Eucerin Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme
2.  Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Body Wash
3.  Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin
4.  Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss with a Moisturizing Shine and Non-Sticky Feel
It all begins in the shower.  I start by lathering myself in wonderful-smelling Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Body Wash.  It’s light and fresh and leaves my skin feeling well-hydrated, as its title implies.
But, I still get frustrated, because my face seems to always be flaky when it’s cold here.  Even after applying foundation, my skin tone often looks uneven because of the dry patches.  I’m hesitant to use lotion, though, because I don’t want the oil to cause me to breakout.  Yes, I still have to concern myself with acne.
Many people (myself included) associate oily skin with breakouts.  But did you know that overly-dry skin actually produces more oil in an effort to hydrate itself, which in turn increases the chances of breakouts?  It’s crazy, but yet it makes sense.
So meet my new best friend…Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture (#3 above).  I rub just a small dab into each cheek and into my forehead, and goodbye flakes!  Then I apply my foundation like normal.  Moisture minus the greasy feel!  And now I don’t have to stress about breaking out.  It’s a big win!

Bam! Smooth, even, flake-free skin!  Now that’s worth a smile.

So here’s my freshly made-up look (foundation, powder, liner, shadow, blush and mascara), minus one very important aspect.  Can you spot it?  Check out those extremely cracky lips! If I’m not persistent about applying balm, they literally flake and bleed.  No bueno.
I love gloss, but I’m not a fan of the super-thick, sticky stuff that makes it difficult to separate the lips to speak.  Dry and cracky just might be a more appealing alternative.  But, not to worry, because I found a perfect solution at Walgreens!

Enter Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss (as shown above in #4)!  It’s not too heavy or thick and is very natural!  Just what I’m going for with my everyday look.  Yet it still moisturizes and replenishes!  Amazing!  It’s fun and easy to apply too!
And now to conquer one last issue…my poor scaly hands.
I’ve always used Original Eucerin lotion (#1 above) to combat the dry skin on my hands and I absolutely love it.  It may be slightly on the greasy side, but that’s exactly what I need in my extreme case.  It immediately rectifies the scales and cracks, and leaves my hands looking so nice for a long time!

I hope you found these #WalgreensBeauty tips helpful! So tell me-what products do you use in your winter beauty routine?  I’d love to hear!I am a member of #CollectiveBias.  I received free product and compensation for this post; however, the product choices, content and opinions are all mine.

Your makeup looks great! I never really learned how to apply it properly until I was in my 40s. I've been using coconut oil and/or olive oil on my body. So far, so good.

I love your makeup! I want to try these products! I have the driest skin ever! I've started using a BB cream before applying my foundation to moisturize my face and it really helps.

Thanks Catherine! I don't know why I was always so afraid to apply moisturizer to my face, because it's made all the difference and I can't not use it now!

This is great! Thanks Christine! This winter has been particularly brutal on my skin - especially my hands! I've almost always got one or two cracks right next to my nails because I am constantly washing my hands (thank you, two year olds...) and they just dry out. I'll have to try out some of these products, because I probably put on WAY cheap lotion and obviously it's not working out too well.

Hey Tiffany! I think the real culprit to the dry hands is the kiddos, and the constant hand-washing we moms have to do. :) Eucerin is the only product so far that works for me. It's amazing!

I've always had acne-prone skin and just recently learned the importance moisture plays in combating acne. I've been using the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer any my skin is slowly making a turn around. The Revlon Lipgloss is also one of my favorites. I can't wait to try your other two picks! #client

Hey Kelly! I absolutely love the moisturizer and I don't think I'll ever use another lipgloss. :)

You look beautiful! I also battle with dry skin in the winter especially. For my hands I've noticed that using foaming hand soap helps quite a bit versus the regular stuff.
