I’ve started an exciting new gig! I’ve joined a small group of fantastic bloggers who are going to participate in what’s called a “Mystery Dish Challenge”. Have you watched MasterChef? Well we’re doing something very similar to that, but in a virtual form. At the beginning of the month, one of the bloggers posts a list of ingredients and the rest of us get to use them to make a new, fabulous edible creation that we hope all of you will enjoy! I’ll share the recipes at the end of each month.
This month we were given the following ingredients:
Bacon
Cheddar Cheese
Maple Syrup
Peanut Butter
Cinnamon
Apples
Great selection, right? We all had to use at least two of the ingredients.
After the list was revealed, I immediately thought of one of my most favorite fall desserts…apple crisp. But I wanted to give it a fun, tasty spin so it wasn’t the same ‘ol apple crisp that your mom used to make. Not that, that’s a bad thing. I was just going for unique. So I added in a not-so-secret ingredient, which you may be able to guess from reading the title.
The result? Complete and utter perfection in a bowl. Seriously. It’s delectable.
Don’t you just want to pop that bite right into your mouth?
We had two young men over as dinner guests when I served this for dessert. Even after eating ten tacos a piece, they were able to down a heaping bowl of this Peanut Butter Apple Crisp and were looking around for more. Boys and their appetites, lol.
The flavor and texture combo is absolutely divine.
Are you apple/peanut butter dipper?
Then this dish is for you! Heck-even if you’re not, chances are you’ll love it. 🙂
So are you dying to see the recipe? Here it is.
{PEANUT BUTTER APPLE CRISP}
Yields one 8×8 pan
4 large apples (I like to use Granny Smith for baking), peeled and sliced
1/2 c. sugar
2 T. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Dash of salt
3 T. lemon juice
1 1/2 T. butter
Topping:
1/2 c. butter, room temperature
1/4 c. peanut butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. oatmeal
Pinch of salt
1/2 c. walnuts (optional)
Arrange apples in the bottom of an 8×8 casserole dish that has been sprayed with butter spray. Stir together sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle apples with lemon juice, then with the sugar mixture. Top with 1 1/2 T. butter that has been chopped into small pieces.
For the topping, stir together brown sugar, flour, oatmeal, salt and walnuts (optional). Cut in butter and peanut butter so the mixture resembles course crumbs. Sprinkle topping on and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 45 minutes.
Serve warm with a few scoops of vanilla ice cream.
I wonder if the judges would approve?
The hubby certainly did, and he’s not a peanut butter or an apple crisp fan. AT ALL.
I had so much fun with this month’s Mystery Dish Challenge! If you have plans to make a dessert in the near future, put this at the top of your list! You won’t be sorry!Check out this month’s other great creations by my very talented co-bloggers!
