Make school lunch exciting for kids with today’s lunch idea, plus a simple DIY Pencil Label so they’ll know whose is whose!
My kids’ first day of school is today! They have mixed emotions about it, for sure. They’re excited for new teachers and friends, but sad that summer break has already come to an end! Those few months always seem to fly right by!
One thing they always look forward to is lunch break! One of the main reasons is of course recess, but the other is the chance to open their lunch box and see what goodness awaits them. I try to keep things interesting by including their favorite snacks on rotation and then I fill the rest in with fruits and veggies.
Do your kids pack their own lunches? We are going to be working on that this year. 🙂 So far, I have mainly done it for my kids, but with three in school now, it’s getting to be a lot of work! Packing lunches can be a labor of love and I know my kids really appreciate that I do that for them. And their smiles make it totally worth it!
My kids love Snyder’s Pretzels and Lance Crackers! They always request them in their lunches. I love that they are so convenient and something that get my kids excited about lunch time. Plus, I know they will get eaten and not wasted!
Look out for an offer in your weekly circular for a chance to save on Snyder’s of Hanover® and Lance® products starting 7/29/18 until 9/30/18.
- Save $1.00 on ANY 2 Lance® Sandwich cracker or peanut multipack 8oz or larger
- Save $1.00 on ANY 2 Snyder’s of Hanover® Products 5oz or larger
We love Lance Toast Chee! Real peanut butter and real big flavor, sandwiched between two cheesy baked crackers. With 5g of protein, it fills kids up and fuels them forward the rest of the school day!
And I just can’t get over how cute those Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels – Itty Bitty Mini’s are! SOH are a big part of our lunches because they have simple ingredients, a hearty crunch and are never short on flavor!

I picked up all the supplies for the kids’ lunch at my local Smith’s.
Last year we had a few incidents of lost and mixed up lunch boxes, so I decided to make sure that didn’t happen again. So I made a cute little pencil name label to go outside the box! You’re going to be amazed at how easy it is to put together!
You’ll need some popsicle sticks, yellow and pink craft paint, grey ribbon and one other type of ribbon for hanging, brown craft paper and a black permanent marker.
Line four popsicle sticks together and glue supports to one side using brown craft paper. You may need to add a support in the middle as well. Now paint the top third of your pencil pink, which will be the eraser, and the rest yellow. Cut some gray ribbon to size and hot glue it where the pink meets the yellow.
Now cut a rounded triangle shape for the bottom of the pencil using brown craft paper and glue it behind the popsicle sticks. Color in the lead point with black marker. Label it with your child’s name. Lastly, hot glue a piece of ribbon to the back in two places.
Now tie your pencil name label to the lunch box from the handle. Isn’t it cute?! I hope you found this lunch idea helpful! I know I’m always on the lookout for new lunch ideas to keep things interesting for my kids!
