Chocolate Chunk Cookies infused with coarsely-crushed plain potato chips and topped with a perfect chocolate ganache have a wonderful texture and a surprisingly delicious sweet/salty flavor! You don’t have to take my word for it! Make some today!
I concocted these yummies as part of this month’s Mystery Dish Challenge.
Mary Frances from The Sweet Tooth Life was our wonderful hostess this month and asked the group to use three of the following ingredients:
1. Clams
2. Ramen noodles
3. Blueberries
4. Heavy whipping cream
5. Chocolate chunks
6. Potato chips
7. Kale
8. Almond butter
9. Chiles
10. Orange juice
I saw these options as the perfect opportunity to put potato chips in a cookie! I’ve been dying to do it anyway for a long time.
Potato chips in cookies? I know, it sounds totally gross, but think about it…we do basically the same thing when we dip pretzels in chocolate. Adding potato chips to cookies just seems logical, at least to me. 🙂
Why, you might ask, would I want to do such a thing? Well, I’ll tell you. The potato chips add a salty crunch that’s unmatched and perfectly compliments the sweetness of the cookie dough.
If I hadn’t told you there were potato chips in there, you would be puzzled when you took a bite about the uniqueness thereof, but too lost in the exquisite tastiness of them to care.
This innovation takes the chocolate chip cookie to the next level! Here’s to the next generation of awesomeness in sweets with potato chips!
If you are a daring foodie, or even if not, throw some potato chips in the mixing bowl next time you whip up some cookies, and you just might rethink the way you’ve been making them all along. 🙂
{POTATO CHIP CHOCOLATE CHUNK COOKIES}
1 c. salted butter, softened
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup chocolate chunks
1 cup coarsely crushed plain potato chips
Ganache:
1/2 c. chocolate chunks
2-3 Tbsp. heavy cream
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in egg. Stir together dry ingredients and then mix with the wet until combined. The dough will be thick, so just keep mixing until it makes a dough consistency. Stir in crushed potato chips and chocolate chunks.
Roll into balls, place on a cookie sheet, and bake for 10-12 minutes. Remove to cooling rack. To make the ganache, place chocolate chunks and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between until all the chocolate is melted. Don’t over-do it or the chocolate will scorch. Alternatively, melt chocolate chunks and heavy cream over a double boiler until smooth. Drizzle over cookies.
Don’t knock it ’til you try it! These are seriously yummy!
