Reader Submission: Flat Zipper Bag/Wallet and Crib Rail Guards

Today we are privileged with another reader submission!  Rachel is here to share how she made a cute zipper bag/wallet and some very useful crib rail guards.

Take it away, Rachel!

My name is Rachel Sampson, I am an avid crafter and have taught myself to do many things. I make jewelry, leather bound books, crochet, cross stitch, and many other things, but my latest crafting obsession is sewing. I began sewing in 2011, and I absolutely love it.

Pinterest has fed my love of crafting and allowed me to learn how to make so many more things…one being this zipper bag.

{Flat Zipper Bag/Wallet}

This project was fun and easy to make.  It was my first experience with sewing zippers. I was able to make the wallet out of two fat quarters and a zipper, all of which I got at Walmart for under $4.
Sewing this didn’t take very long.  The most time-consuming part was pinning it together in preparation to sew. The most difficult part was getting the zipper sewn on correctly. I would like to find a reversible zipper, as this wallet could easily be reversible
If you would like to make one, see the tutorial here:
{Crib Rail Guards}

My son had just started to chew on his crib rails, and I needed something to cover them up so I could save the crib. I had some leftover material from some other projects and had some batting that I had saved from a crib bumper quilt project I was working on.  In the end, I think I only really spent money on the ribbons.
Sewing everything together was quite easy.  I was able to finish the project in just one night. Because the batting I used was thicker than what they suggest in the tutorial, I had to sew some seams down the middle of each cover to assist in bending and allow the cover to sit on the rail just right. All in all, it was a fun, cheap project that filled an urgent need.
