Get kids away from technology and get them outdoors and active with these three easy and fun games! They require nothing but a few players and enough space to run around!
Winter time has a tendency to confine us to the house. Which soon leads to boredom, at least for the kids. And, if your kids are like mine, when they don’t know what to do they turn to things that require the least amount of effort, like TV shows, their tablet or video games.
But when the cold weather finally goes, the warm summer sun calls us outside to play! After a dreary couple of months cooped up inside, it’s so refreshing to see the sun again! I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see my kids set the technology aside to get some exercise and vitamin D while having a blast doing it. Fresh air and sunshine really does the body good! We have a few favorite games that we love to play out on our tennis court. I can’t wait to tell you all about them!
Whenever we head out, I’m that mom that’s always spraying on the Banana Boat® Kids Sport Sunscreen to protect my kids’ sensitive skin. They know that the fun and games don’t start until after the sunscreen! 🙂
It’s comforting to know that Banana Boat® is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation to protect against the sun’s harmful rays. Plus, it provides safe and effective broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. I keep it in my bag so we always have it when we’re going to be outdoors.
Banana Boat® Kids Sport Sunscreen is a tear-free and sting-free formula that’s mild and gentle enough for kids’ sensitive skin. It stays on in seven conditions – sun, pool water, ocean water, wind, sweat, sand and even 100 degree heat (7 conditions does not apply to tanning or oil products, SPF 100 lotions, lip balms, Kids FREE and Zinc Faces).
With how hard my kids run while playing tag, especially in the hot sun, I can appreciate that Banana Boat® Kids Sport Sunscreen has a water-resistant formula (up to 80 minutes) that’s not just for the pool! It’s perfect for those make-you-sweat activities too, like today’s games!
Its tear-free and sting-free formula is mild and gentle enough for kids while being light-weight and quick absorbing. Plus, it won’t run into the eyes! And we all know how important that is.
After I’ve applied the sunscreen the kids know they are free to romp and play as they please! They usually start with a game of line tag while their energy is at its max. We like to play it on our tennis court where the lines are already there for us, but you can also play it on the pavement and draw chalk lines. The only rule is that you have to stay on the lines or you forfeit! Jumping between lines is ok, so long as you land and start running on another line!
The next most-requested outdoor game at our house is Four Corners. We play this one on our tennis court too, but you can also place four objects on the grass to represent the “corners” or just designate four objects (like trees, big rocks, etc.) that relatively form a square as the “corners”. One player stands in the middle, closes his/her eyes tightly (use a blindfold, if necessary), and counts to 20 or so. The other players quietly run to a corner during this time. Then the player in the middle points to a corner while still closing his/her eyes and if there are any players in that corner, they’re out! This continues with the player in the middle counting and pointing. The last player in wins!
The last game that we play over and over when we’re outside is the “Guess the Color Chase Game”, or so we call it. One player is it and thinks of a color (it can be as easy or hard as you’d like it to be-we’re talking as specific as “Sky Blue” for older players or simply blue for younger players). Then, the other players try to guess that color and if they do, the player who’s it starts running and the other players chase him/her. Whoever catches the person who’s it wins and gets to be it and think of a color for the next round.
We have a few other games that we play outside, but these are by far our favorite! They’re so easy and so fun! Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
