This Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake tastes like your wildest dreams just came true! Everything you love in a dessert-chocolate, caramel, whipped cream, and toffee bits in one incredible dessert that’ll have everyone begging for more! You’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven!
This cake is one of those confections that has it all! It really “takes the cake”, you might say. Haha!
It just doesn’t get any better in the dessert world! The best tall homemade chocolate cake base, poked and filled with an incredible caramel sauce, sprinkled with toffee bits, then spread with oodles of homemade whipped cream! And don’t forget the chocolate and caramel drizzle on top! Then it’s finished with additional toffee bits, because you can just never have too much. 🙂
Since all content on this blog is G rated for families, I opted not to call this cake by its original title, you probably know the one (BTS…Better than You-Know-What). So then I needed to come up with a new and exciting name for it. And rather than terming it something boring like Better than Anything Cake or Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake, which it very much is, my thoughts were stuck on a silly quote from Napoleon Dynamite. Have you seen it?
My husband and I were watching it one night while on our kid-free trip to Yellowstone a few weeks back. It was on TV and we hadn’t seen it in ages. I’d forgotten how funny it is! Totally dumb yet so hilarious!
One of our favorite quotes from the movie is when Pedro is running for class president and is giving his speech in front of the entire school and says, “If you vote for me, all of your wildest dreams will come true,” (insert accent) in a very monotone voice.
We laughed so hard on that part and we were quoting it as we were ziplining, rafting, hiking and biking throughout the remainder of the week.
I don’t know what your wildest dreams might be (I’ve always wanted to fly), but this cake is better than them! 🙂

Your Wildest Dreams Come True Cake
Ingredients
- 1 c. buttermilk *see note below
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 c. vegetable oil
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 tsp. baking soda
- 1/3 c. baking cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- Caramel Poke Filling:
- 1/2 can or 7 oz. sweetened condensed milk
- 3/4 c. caramel syrup the ice cream topping
- Heath Toffee Bits
- Whipped Cream:
- 2 c. heavy cream
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 heaping spoonfuls powdered sugar
- Chocolate syrup and additional caramel syrup and Heath Toffee Bits for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9"x13" cake pan.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, mix together oil, vanilla, sugar, and eggs. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, baking cocoa and salt. Next, alternately add to the wet mixture the buttermilk, boiling water and flour mixture (starting with the flour mixture), mixing in between each addition. Be sure to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl to make sure everything is getting incorporated.
- Pour and spread batter evenly into prepared cake pan and bake for approximately 40 minutes, or just until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool for 10 minutes, then poke the top of it with the round portion of a wooden spoon to create holes that are about 1 inch apart.
- Prepare caramel poke filling by stirring sweetened condensed milk and caramel syrup together in a saucepan over the stove top on medium heat just until well combined and warmed through. Stir often. Pour over the cake and spread so it seeps nicely into the holes. Sprinkle the top of the cake with Heath Toffee Bits. Put in fridge and allow it to cool the rest of the way.
- Prepare whipping cream by whipping the heavy cream, vanilla and powdered sugar together in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment until peaks form. Spread over cooled cake, drizzle generously with chocolate and caramel syrup, then sprinkle with additional Heath Toffee Bits. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
