Peanut Butter Chocolate Spider Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 c butter softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 c granulated sugar
  • 1 c brown sugar packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c peanut butter
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 c flour
  • 2 c oatmeal
  • 3/4 c. chocolate chips
  • Chocolate-covered malted milk balls
  • black gel icing for eyes
  • brown frosting from the tube or chocolate buttercream frosting for legs

Method

  1. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream butter and sugars. Add eggs, peanut butter, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and chocolate chips. Mix until combined. Spread/press into a lightly greased 9×13 cake pan. Bake 350 degrees for 14-17 min.
  2. Allow them to cool for a few minutes, then carefully cut into squares and press malted milk balls into the top of the bars. Allow them to cool all the way, then add on black gel icing eyes and chocolate frosting legs.

Notes

I added the spiders before cutting the dessert into squares, but realized that it would be much easier to cut the bars first. Pressing in the chocolate candy balls works so much better when the bars are nice and warm. Do your best to cut them while warm, then press in the candy balls, so you won't have to mess the spiders up while cutting the bars.
