I am a huge fan of Valentine’s day. I’ve heard all the criticisms out there for “love” day, but you know what? I just like the idea of having a special day to celebrate those I hold dear. I still show my affection year-round, but why not go all out just one day? And I’ll be honest-I’m not going to turn down an excuse to get gifts. Not to mention, I’m a sucker for the extra special dinner, the flowers, and especially the chocolate.
Most everything is the same as the original except I used pink vinyl and pink ribbon instead of red. I liked the idea of making the hearts look just like the candy.
I started out by painting the wooden heart plaques that I ordered last year from Ben Franklin. If you noticed, I didn’t say that I sanded them first. I LOATHE sanding! You may want to do that if you make these, but I was perfectly content skipping the step, and you can’t tell (at least I can’t) unless you look really close. That’s how I feel about ironing too.
Anyways, I had every color except pink in my huge box of supplies! I couldn’t believe myself. But it didn’t deter me. I applied what I learned in my elementary school art class and mixed some white and red paint until I reached the desired color. 🙂
Then, I cut the vinyl on my Silhouette and applied it to the hearts. I used the Mandingo font.
Next, I hot glued the plaques to the ribbon and voila! There you have it. Total time was around an hour and a half, if you count the time it took for the paint to dry.
This craft cost me around $11 TOTAL, and the shop where I saw this was selling EACH personalized heart for $11, plus $10-$12 for shipping!!
