Merry & Bright Holiday Hostess Gift

Thank your holiday party hostess with this red and white Merry & Bright Gift, filled with all things cheery from candles to chocolate, to a DIY Sparkly Light Bulb Ornament!
When I think about the holidays, I just get happy!  There’s just so much to look forward to and get excited about during this wonderful time of year.  Red and white colors make me think of jolly old St. Nick, and no one’s more merry than him!
So this was the inspiration for today’s simple yet impactful gift.
I love burning candles while blasting the Christmas music and snuggling up by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate.  The festive fragrances just bring more life and magic to the holidays.  Not to mention, the warm yellow flame in a dimly-lit room during the evening is just so cozy!  There’s nothing that sets the mood quite like a yummy candle!
I’m really looking forward to attending fun holiday gatherings with friends.  I’ve got a “Favorite Things Party” coming up in just a few weeks, followed by a Christmas Music Recital and a cookie decorating party.
I know firsthand how much work and effort is put into hosting a party, so I try to make a point of showing gratitude to my hostesses.  I like to prepare the gifts ahead of time so I can just grab them quickly before heading out to the festivities, because there’s always plenty of other things on my mind and it’s nice to have them conveniently on hand.
So on my last trip to Walmart, I headed down the candle aisle and snagged some American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand fragrances to prepare the gift.
There were so many wonderful fragrances to choose from, but, in keeping with the red and white theme of my gift idea, I selected Fresh Apple and Buttercream fragrances. I knew the 19 oz. tumbler would be perfect for my candle cozy idea too!  It was just $14.93.  The Fragrance Beads ($3.43 each) and sampler votive candles (just $1.43 each) were perfect filler items. You can view all the wonderful American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand fragrances on the Walmart assortment page.

And then, because every hostess needs a little chocolate in her life, I added some peppermint bark to my collection.
I just love finding ways to repurpose items.  So to make this pretty, sparkly ornament, I grabbed an old light bulb from my closet and gave it a few coats of white acrylic paint, allowing it to dry in between.  Because I’m an impatient person, I used my blow dryer on a low, cool setting to speed up the process. 🙂
Next, I painted Mod Podge over the white paint and immediately sprinkled the bulb with white glitter crystals.  I let that dry, then painted the top of the bulb red.  Lastly, I hot glued a piece of baker’s twine to the sides for hanging.  That’s it!  I’m thinking I need to make a few for my own tree.
The candle cozy was even easier to make, if that’s saying something.  I cut a piece of burlap to go all the way around, hot glued it in the back, then tied a bow in front with a pretty piece of ribbon!
Then, to put the gift all together, I filled a “Merry and Bright” gift box that I found at Walmart with red paper shreds, added my items on top, and it’s ready for gifting!  I can’t wait to attend my first holiday party and share this with my hostess friend! What are your favorite American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand fragrances and what are your best ideas for using them in a holiday gift?  I’d love to hear in the comments section below!
