My kids and I love to stay busy with crafts all summer long, so this past week, we took on an easy and inexpensive project that turned into pretty Framed Flower Art for their rooms.
Can you tell they’re slightly proud of their creations? 🙂 We had so much fun, from start to finish, making these! It involved a quick trip to the foothills to gather beautiful “supplies”, which we didn’t mind at all, either! We had a wonderful nature hike while picking gorgeous wildflowers to frame.
We are loving our not-so-lazy summer days so far, how about you? When we’re not swimming, hiking, or playing with friends, we’re working on a colorful project. These kiddos seriously beg to make a craft every day!
So I came up with a way to involve physical activity, nature, and our creative juices with this adorable framed wildflower art!
Here’s how we did it:
I grabbed a package of Glad Press’n Seal on my last trip to Walmart, knowing it would come in handy often. This project was made much easier and less messy for sure with its help!
Then I found some cardboard in my craft closet to use for the frames. You’ll also need some washable kids’ paints, foam brushes, and don’t forget the wildflowers!
Cut a rectangle out of the center using an Xacto knife to create the frame. An adult should of course do this part.
Line an area of the table with Glad Press’n Seal where the kids can paint their frames. I didn’t have to worry at all about stray paint because it sealed nicely to the table and kept the mess contained.
Did I mention cleanup is a total breeze using this easy trick?! Simply peel the Glad Press’n Seal up and toss it when they’re done painting! There was no lingering mess! Hooray!
Let the paint dry completely, then flip the frame over and line the back with Glad Press’n Seal. It bonds wonderfully to the cardboard without any tape! Trim the excess around the edges, if necessary.
At this point, we took the frames with us and headed out on our short nature hike where we gathered a few wildflowers to display.
Let the kids arrange the flowers in the open area of the frame on top of the Glad Press’n Seal.
Now place another layer of Glad Press’n Seal over the top of the flowers, ensuring that it clings tightly to the flowers and to the edges of the frame. Trim the excess for a nice finished look.
That’s it! Isn’t it pretty? I love to see my kids’ creativity shine. And speaking of shine, we enjoyed catching some rays on our fun outing! It was a gorgeous day!
This was such an easy and fun project! The kids are thrilled to have a little piece of the wilderness as part of their room decor. I treasure their handmade creations and love displaying them throughout the house.
