“HOORAY!” Baby Gender Reveal Party

I was so excited when my friend wanted me to host a baby gender reveal party for her!  She gave me the sealed ultrasound envelope and I got busy planning!  I think the best part of it all was that I knew something that no one else did, at least for a short time.  🙂  It was a ladies-only party, but her entire family was invited over later for the big reveal.  I decided on a yellow and white theme with the less-traditional balloon pop to unveil the surprise.

On the invitation I asked everyone to wear pink or blue, depending on what they thought it was.  The majority voted girl!

The excitement and anticipation level were so high.  Everyone seemed to rush through dinner, and we had to end up calling her family over early for the big reveal!  They couldn’t wait the extra half hour.  LOL.

Here’s all the fun details.  I drew inspiration on Pinterest from THIS site.
I rearranged my dining area so I could set up a fabulous food table with a cute chalkboard backdrop.
{DECORATIONS}

I borrowed the chalkboard, cake platters, and drink holder from a friend.  As the guests entered in their colors, I kept tally on the board of who was on “Team Boy” and “Team Girl”.

I made the simple table runner with yellow and white polka dot fabric from Hobby Lobby.  I also put together the easy white pendant banner with my Silhouette cutter.

 I cut some fun chalkboard labels for the food items with my Silhouette and wrote on them with chalkboard markers that I bought for my Chalkboard Chore Charts.
I put my Candy Jar Pedestals to use by filling them with tasty lemon drops and white chocolate-covered pretzels.

I displayed the balloon and the “Top Secret” ultrasound envelope where all could see, to build even more suspense.    🙂

I cut colored paper into tons of tiny pieces and stuffed it into the black balloon, in hopes that no one would be able to see through.  Maybe I was just being paranoid, but when I tested it under certain lighting, I could see the colored confetti, so I took the balloon outside and gave it a coat of black spray paint.  Problem solved!

{FOOD}

I served chips with dip, chicken salad sandwiches on rolls, grapes, poppyseed bread, my special rice krispies, and lemon water.  The descriptive food labels continued the fun chalkboard theme.

{GAMES/ACTIVITIES}

I set this table up in the entry-way for all the guests to suggest names for the baby as they arrived.

    We played a fun “Old Wives’ Tales” game that I found on THIS site.  It’s basically a quiz for the mom-to-be about her pregnancy where each answer points to it being a boy or girl.  There are questions such as “Have you been clumsy or graceful?”, “Are your hands chapped or soft?” and “Do you crave the heels of bread or the middle?”  I kept tally and at the end, the score pointed to “boy” by one point!
{THE BIG REVEAL!!!}

Everyone was just dying to know, so the second her family arrived, I asked her husband to stand above her on the staircase and pop the balloon to reveal the gender.  She was showered with blue confetti!In hindsight, I’d try to find double-sided paper, because the back of mine was white, but it still worked.

It’s a  BOY!!!!
Their expressions say it all.  It was so thrilling to find out together what their last baby would be.
This bash was SO fun to plan and execute!  I’d throw another one in a heartbeat.

    That looks like fun- we don't have gender reveal parties here in New Zealand but I could see it catching on!

    I love the balloon pop idea. My friend had a gender reveal party last year and they had the cake bakery tint the middle layer of the cake icing the color (pink in her case) but it was so dark in the restaurant, you couldn't tell what color it was! Their moms were the ones who cut the cake and they had to tilt it just right and then had to ask "Is it pink?" lol. The balloon pop idea is a lot less fool-proof!

    So cute, love the Hooray chalkboard with the team girl team boy!How much fun, love the balloon pop and confetti. I did one for my daughter and the baker was the only one who knew the secret, he made a cake with pink icing in the center so the sex was revealed when they cut the cake!
