Girls’ Room Update: Paris Theme

We gave our girls’ room a face lift and I couldn’t be more pleased with how this Paris-themed update turned out!

We just celebrated the two year anniversary of moving into our 1950’s home. Ever since unpacking that last box, I knew the girls’ room was top on my list of home “to do’s”. The old version was not short on color, but really not what I was going for. I wanted a style that was timeless and feminine yet classy! The girls needed a more calm space…a place where they could relax and read or play dolls. So Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore was the wall color of choice. It’s amazing how something so simple as a paint color can instantly make a space feel light and airy! It’s like a breath of fresh air walking into there now.

Their room is quite small, so I didn’t want it to constantly feel like the walls were closing in on them like it did. I feel claustrophobic just looking at the photos! It definitely needed brightening up!

Here’s a few peeks at what it looked like before:

There were holes and unpainted areas where the previous homeowners had ripped shelves off the walls. My girls’ one request was that I not paint over the “sky” ceiling, so that remains unchanged. It goes surprisingly well with the cute Paris theme, so I’m glad we left it. But the rest of the room got a whole new look and feel! You’d almost think we added square footage to the room, walking into it now. It’s truly incredible what a fresh coat of paint can do!

We added a new light fixture-a ceiling fan. We only have a swamp cooler to combat summer heat, so air circulation was key!

I also painted the wooden closet door an antique white to match their furniture color. What a difference that made!

I tore out the old “baseboards”, if you could call them that and replaced them with something more substantial and crisp white.

I framed some photos of my girls and snagged a cute Eiffel Tower canvas and framed flower picture from Hobby Lobby to make a simple collage wall. With the size of their room, I didn’t want things to be too busy. I love the fun pop of color the flowers add!

I’d have to say that my favorite part of their newly-revamped space is this gorgeous rug from Jet.com. I searched high and low to find just the right statement piece to cover their wood floor and this is it! It really brings some bold color and pattern to contrast the grey walls and perfectly complements their Paris-themed bedding from Walmart.com. It’s also super soft, and my girls have already spent lots of time sitting and playing on it.

Because of the limited space in their room, we have our two girls’ dressers situated snuggly side by side. I picked up the cute hanging pom poms from Hobby Lobby. The pink and white dresser is a furniture makeover from years past that you can see here.  I purchased the three similar baskets at The Container Store. They were a perfect way to hide all the small, messy toys!

My girls love hanging out in their room now. I feel like I’ve said this a million times, but it’s amazing what a little paint and some other decor elements can do to really change the look of a place! The pom pom pillows are from Hobby Lobby.

Here’s another look at the beautiful rug. Eventually I may add some simple curtains to the window….after I muster up the desire to sew. 🙂girls paris room8

Cute things are so much cuter when they come in pairs! I’m so glad that we get to “see double” when it comes to the pretty bedding on the girl’s bunk beds.

My friend gave me this darling Eiffel Tower jewelry holder. It’s so perfect for their room!

I can’t get enough of the cute poodles and pretty French writing! The Paris theme is so much fun!

We are in love with this beautiful new space! What’s your favorite part about it?

I’m on a project role, so stay tuned to see my boys’ bedroom revamp soon! After this, I vow to never paint again! Ha!
