My kids are a little completely crazy about monsters. So my son and I decided one day to make some monster cupcakes while big sister was at school and little sister was napping. We had to turn on Monsters, Inc in the background while we were busy. 🙂 We had way too much fun mixing it up with different colors of frosting, varying numbers of eyes, sprinkles, and curvy mouths. My son wanted to make friendly monsters, so we piped on some happy faces.
Here’s how to make your own:
{WHAT YOU’LL NEED}
A batch of cupcakes
Lots of frosting
Food coloring (gel or other)
Sprinkles
Sprinkles
Edible eyes (I got mine at World Market, but you can find them at a craft store and some grocery stores)
Black Decorating Icing (mine was by Wilton and came in a tube)
A small circle decorative icing tip

I made my favorite Chocolate Buttermilk Cupcake Recipe, of course with lots of help from my son. Can you tell he was having a good time?
I made a double batch of Buttercream Frosting, leaving out the baking cocoa, of course, and using about 4 c. powdered sugar for each batch instead. Then we separated the frosting into smaller bowls and colored each with food gel color. Then, we frosted them and my son put on the eyes, sprinkles, and piped on the mouths with black icing.
This was the best part…devouring the monsters…eyes and all. 🙂 I’m digging the orange frosting teeth.
Aren’t they fun? We loved making them and surprising big sister when she got home from school!
