DIY Photo Collage Wall

Anyone who knows me is aware that I get a little too excited over family pictures.  My house is adorned from top to bottom with them.  My hubby and kids are so precious to me, and I want everyone to know that when they enter my home.
So…since my own house is filled to the brim with photos, I found a new location to further my obsession when I visited my parents last week.
There’s a big wall at their place that you see right as you walk in the front door. It was very outdated and in major need of a makeover.  So I decided to give it a facelift!
I’d seen lots of well-done photo walls on Pinterest, but none that I wanted to imitate, so I forged my own path.  Yay for me!  It doesn’t happen very often. 🙂
I worked some magic (aka went to Hobby Lobby) and this is what it looks like now!

What do you think?

Here’s what it looked like BEFORE I took to it.

Do you want to make one yourself?
Anyone can do it!  Here’s how.
  1. Gather lots of frames (and picture hanging hardware, if needed) (how many frames you need will depend on how close together you want them and how big your wall is).  I ended up buying 8 from Hobby Lobby.  I used two that my parents already had.  I chose frames of different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures for variety and visual appeal. I bought the top flourish and the letter “H” at Hobby Lobby also.
This can get kind of expensive, even if you buy the frames 50% off, like I did.  A much cheaper option
is to purchase frames at a thrift store and give them a fresh coat of paint.  I didn’t have time to do this,
so I opted for Hobby Lobby.

  2.  Develop your pictures and put them in the frames.
  3. Come up with a plan for your frame layout. Make paper patterns of the frames
and tape them to the wall as a tentative layout plan.  Like this:

Photo from Southern Living        Or just lay your frames out on the floor using the same space that you would have on the wall.  Then
find your center on the wall and make sure that aligns with the center of your collage.  Work out from
there. This option may require lots of helping hands, though.  I come from a big family, so
it worked nicely. 🙂
4.  Grab your measuring tape, level, hammer and nails and hang the pictures on the wall using your plan
as a guide.
5.   Now step back and admire!
This was a really fun project and I love how it transformed the space!

If you have any questions, let me know and I’d be happy to answer them!  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

It turned out so cute! I think the letter really adds a lot to it as well. I definitely want to try this out when I have a house to decorate.
