Make hosting a Halloween party easy with this spooky ice cream cake buffet, complete with a DIY Frankenstein Cake Stand and homemade watercolor candy corn banner! Everyone will think you spent all day preparing!
You all know how I feel about Halloween. I’m obsessed! It’s always a little depressing to see the month of October go, so I like to make the most of it while it’s here by celebrating in a big way!
I can’t wait to show you how simple it is to accomplish this fun and festive buffet setup for guests! This could be part of a large-scale celebration or just a low-key mix and mingle where the adults chat while the kids run around in their costumes. Either way, I always say that the simpler the better when it comes to party planning and especially the food. I purchased some yummy frozen ice cream cakes from I Love Ice Cream Cakes in my local grocery store, so I didn’t have to sweat about what to serve, gathered some decorations from my Halloween bin (many of them are past years’ Halloween crafts), and then whipped up an adorable Frankenstein Cake Stand that I’ll show you how to make later in the post.
I really wanted to come up with a creative and memorable way to present the ice cream cakes to my guests, so I put together this fun Frankenstein stand with an upcycled stackable chip can and an inexpensive black plate.
Because I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t crazy for OREOs and ice cream, I knew this cake would be a HIT, and boy was I right!
The cookie crumbles, the cool and creamy ice cream, and puffy whipped frosting on top…it just can’t be beat! Even the spider couldn’t help but go for a taste. 🙂
And then I also wanted to offer the option of another variety of ice cream cake for those who maybe wanted to sample a little of both. So I included a Carvel Ice Cream Cake as well. I added a quick spider and paper straw topper to it to jazz it up and continue the theme. Just look at those beautiful layers of deliciousness with chocolate crunchies in the middle! Everyone went wild for them! I love that this cake not only pleases all the party peeps but serves a crowd too!
This month is always super busy and jam-packed with activities (is it the same for you?). So I knew that I needed to keep the party spread simple and yet still have the goodies make a big statement. Purchasing pre-made desserts was definitely the way to go! I headed to my local grocery store and grabbed some frozen I Love Ice Cream Cakes in preparation and then gathered some quick decor items from around the house.
These frozen ice cream cakes are so convenient for any occasion and are available in lots of styles, sizes and flavors! They’re easy to find in the bakery or freezer aisles of grocery stores nationwide. Find a store near you that carries them with this handy store locator! And be sure to look for these fun brands and varieties: Carvel®, Peanuts®, Hello Kitty®, Jon Donaire®.
If you’re an ice cream cake fanatic like me, you’ll want to join the Crunchie Club, where you’ll receive product news, coupons, and priceless golden nuggets of information. 🙂
I love how cute candy corns are, and they’re so fitting for a Halloween-themed party, so I painted some orange and yellow stripes with water colors on a sheet of white paper and then cut out the shapes and taped them onto baker’s twine. Then I attached the twine to some paper straws. I think it makes the perfect addition to this OREO® Ice Cream Cake! And one-of-a-kind cake toppers really don’t get easier than this!
And now I can’t wait to share with you how to make the friendly Mr. Frankie cake stand! He’s sure to be a conversation starter!
You’ll need an empty and clean chip canister, a hot glue gun, a small scrap of black cardstock, a box cutter, some green and black craft paint and a foam brush, some googly eyes, a black permanent marker, a strong glue that will work on ceramics, and a plate. Begin by cutting your canister to size. I didn’t want mine to be super tall, so I cut about 2 or 3″ off the top. You’ll want it to be as even and smooth as possible all the way around so your plate will sit level on top. Give your canister a few coats of green paint, allowing it to dry in between. Then use the black paint to add hair.
Hot glue on the large googly eyes, then draw on a nose, mouth and a few stitches with your black permanent marker. Cut out the shape of bolts with your black cardstock and hot glue those to the sides of the canister. Fill your canister half way with sand or small stones to weigh it down. Hot glue the lid on and use high-strength glue to attach your plate to the base. Let the glue set completely, according to the directions on the package.
Now add your cake on top and insert the straw candy corn banner. This cake is a show-stopper!
I love that it’s so easy to tailor I Love Ice Cream Cakes to any holiday or occasion and dress them up by simply making a festive bunting and stand! I surrounded the cakes with some faux spider webbing, some mini pumpkins, glittery spiders, and a backdrop of some Halloween decor from my personal collection. The details can be simple and still so impactful!
This Special Anniversary Peanuts® Harvest Ice Cream Cake would be so perfect for fall gatherings too! It includes creamy vanilla ice cream and mini chocolate chips topped with orange and green icing and is a great way to commemorate the 50th year of the airing of the classic animated TV show-It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Can you believe it? My family has a best-loved tradition of watching it together every October.
