Monte Cristo Sandwiches

My husband and I have this fun (you may think strange) pastime of, when we order something yummy at a sit-down restaurant, we deliberate over what we think is in it and how it’s put together and eventually, if we are ambitious enough, come up with a way to replicate the dish in our kitchen.  We enjoy it.  🙂  The Monte Cristo was an easy one to figure out, and we love making them when we have breakfast for dinner.

We make the “healthier” version because ours is not deep fried like some of the others.  The ingredients may seem like a strange combo, but don’t be turned off by them because these sandwiches are fantastic!

{MONTE CRISTO SANDWICHES}
Serves: 4

8 slices of your favorite bread (mine was homemade)
2 eggs
1/3 cup milk
A jar of your favorite jam (we like blackberry or raspberry)
2 ounces cream cheese (or as much as you like)
Deli-sliced ham
Your favorite cheese, sliced  (we use Monterey Jack)
Powdered sugar for sprinkling
Pre-heat your frying pan or griddles.  Spray with cooking spray.  Beat your eggs and then add milk and whisk all together.  Dip both sides of bread in egg mixture and then place on hot pan.  Cook until golden brown and then flip and do the same to the other side.  Sprinkle both sides with powdered sugar.
Meanwhile, place your ham on a plate and top with sliced cheese.  Zap in microwave until melted (25 seconds or less).  Spread some jam and cream cheese over the ham and melted cheese.   Place between the bread that you cooked and sprinkle top with a little more powdered sugar.
Enjoy!I’d love to hear what you think when you make these!

    I love Monte Cristo's... I like to make mine with Strawberry Jam, and include a little bit of Ranch Dressing. I made these over the summer and even my picky eater hubby liked them. Thank you for sharing definitely making me want one. :)

    Wow, I never would've pictured ham and jam on a sandwich together, but I guess that's one of those things like bacon maple bars. It's supposed to be amazing. Maybe one of these days I will be brave enough to try it. It looks incredible. Maybe I will try it for lunch tomorrow. If you want to try more recipes that are delicious, you should come check out our blog.

    Wow, I would not think of jam, ham and cream cheese being delicious, but I will have to try it before I give my verdict! Thanks for the inspiration.
