Pottery Barn Knockoff Santa and Sleigh Christmas Pillow plus Silhouette Black Friday Sale!

**This post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click and make a purchase from the link, I will receive a small percentage of the proceeds so I can continue to provide you with more great content here on I Dig Pinterest, so thank you!
This Pottery Barn Knockoff burlap pillow sports Santa and his sleigh with a team of reindeer and some fun red Christmas bells on each corner!  I made it with my beloved Silhouette machine.  Be sure to scroll down to see how you can get your hands on one this holiday season!

I love a good knockoff project, because I hate paying pretty prices for things I can easily make myself.  When I saw today’s cute pillow over at Pottery Barn, I immediately knew it needed to make its way to my home, but naturally, I wasn’t willing to pay $60 for it (eek!).
Pillows are one DIY that can save a ton of cash!  They typically are marked way up at stores, but are SO easy to make yourself!
So with a little help from my handy dandy Silhouette Cameo machine, some burlap fabric, heat transfer material, paint and bells, I made my own very similar, but more simple version for around $10!  I love saving money, especially this time of year.
It does require a little bit of sewing, but it’s something any novice like I can do.
Let me tell you how I did it.  It’s super easy!  You will be utterly amazed.
{MATERIALS}
Burlap fabric (I cut my two rectangles to be 12″ x 24″)
4 large Bells
Red paint (I used acryllic paint in “Santa Red”, but spray paint will work too)
Sewing Machine
Thread
Silhouette Machine
Silhouette heat transfer material in Red
Iron
Batting for stuffing
Begin by cutting two rectangles of burlap fabric to be 12″ by 24″.  Set up your design in Silhouette Studio.  Be sure to select “None” under “Cutting Mat” in the Design Page Settings.  I purchased the santa and reindeer design from the Silhouette shop.  My design measured 7″ by 21″.  Don’t forget to mirror the image.  To do so, right click on the image, then select “Flip Horizontally”.

Now cut the design on your Heat Transfer material using the directions provided on the box.  Be sure to place the glossy side down.

Peel off and discard the negative space of the design, leaving only what you want to transfer to the pillow.  Lay the design on the burlap piece that you’d like to be the front of the pillow.  The plastic sheet will be on top and the design should be the right way at this point.
Now place a pillow case or other cloth over the top of the design and press with your iron, working in sections, for about 45 seconds.   When you’re done pressing, begin removing the plastic, ensuring that the design sticks to the fabric.  If it peels up in some places, replace the plastic and press again.
Peel back the plastic and now you’ve got a festive design on your pillow front!
Surge or zig zag the edges of your fabric to prevent fraying.
Place right sides of fabric together and sew around the edges with at least 1/4″ seams.  Leave a big enough opening so you can stuff the pillow.
Now turn the pillow right side out and stuff.  Slip stitch the opening closed by hand.
My bells were gold, so I painted them with acryllic red paint, because that’s what I had on hand.  Spray paint would be even easier, though, if you’ve got it.
Now hand sew one bell onto each corner of the pillow, making sure it’s loose enough that the bells can naturally hang down a little.
That’s it!  Isn’t it pretty?

I’m delighted with how it turned out, and it looks so perfect on my sofa next to the Christmas tree and gifts.
My kiddos can’t wait for Santa Claus to visit our house on the night of Christmas Eve.  This pillow is a nice little reminder to them to be good, because the jolly man will soon be on his way. 🙂

Love it! I have also been eyeing that PB pillow. I just purchased the shape and a few packs of the heat transfer fabric. I am a newbie to Silhoutte. This looks like a project I can do. Thanks for the inspiration.

That's so pretty, anything red always gets my vote anyway - the bells finish it of just perfectly.
