Welcome guests to your home with this pretty “Hello Fall” wooden sign that lends a pretty autumn touch!
We love hosting friends and family in our home all year round, but especially during the holiday season. We’re finalizing plans for the Thanksgiving dinner menu and nailing down the guest list this week. A few of my favorite things about our gatherings are the wonderful company and food we get to enjoy while we’re together for the special occasion.
Two years ago, my sister and her cute family came to visit and share in the feast. Last year, my sweet in-laws came to town and we had the time of our lives eating turkey and pie together. 🙂
I always like to display festive decor to make the ambiance more homey and warm for company. I was so excited to place this “Hello Fall” Sign in my living room where guests can see it when they first enter. I can’t wait to show you how to make it later in this post!
I take great joy in preparing my home to receive guests from dusting the surfaces to shining the windows and getting the sinks all sparkly! I want everyone to feel completely comfortable and content when they’re under my care. An orderly atmosphere allows everyone to really relax and enjoy themselves. And that’s why I like to stock up on cleaning products like Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, Scrubbing Bubbles® Fantastik® and Pledge® Orange Clean.
We all know how messy things can get when large numbers of people congregate in one place! 🙂 So, as the hostess, I try to be prepared for whatever gets thrown at me by keeping these cleaning staples at-the-ready!
These products are easy to find at Home Depot on the aisle with the cleaners. Be on the lookout for Windex® Original Glass Cleaner and Scrubbing Bubbles® Fantastik® product promotions on display in Home Depot stores until 10/31/17, and Pledge® products on display starting 11/1/17.
Find a Home Depot near you with this handy store locator.
I use Pledge® Orange on my furniture to quickly dust, clean, and shine the surfaces. I can’t get enough of the classic, fresh orange Pledge® scent it leaves in the air! My house smells like a million bucks afterwards! It works great on sealed surfaces such as wood, laminate, stainless steel, leather, marble, granite and plastic.
A sparkly sink makes my heart happy, so I like to quickly give it some love with Scrubbing Bubbles® Fantastik®. The grease and grime buildup happens quickly when lots of soiled plates are piled high in the sink, so I try to stay on top of my game by cleaning it after every load goes into the dishwasher.
Its powerful anti-bacterial formula cleans and disinfects a variety of surfaces, including counters, stoves, microwaves and more. Plus, it kills 99% bacteria of bacteria and germs, which is key with a large group of people in the home.
I have lots of glass surfaces throughout my home that seem to be experts at collecting dust and fingerprints. So I keep Windex® Original Glass Cleaner within close reach! It works great on glass & mirrors, counters & appliances, stovetops & sinks, stainless steel & chrome, sealed granite & much more. I love how it leaves everything looking amazing, with a streak free shine!
I like to make sure every little detail is just so before guests arrive, so once the house is spick and span, I give some attention to the decor. Each season, I try to add a new DIY piece to adorn my mantel or shelves. Homemade elements can lend so much character and coziness to the home and are great conversation starters with guests!
Here’s how to make this “Hello Fall” wood sign:
- You’ll need:
- Some wood slats (I cut mine into four pieces of equal length at 18″ each)
- Walnut or other wood stain
- Thin wooden supports for the back
- Vinyl cutter or stencils for lettering and pumpkin (optional), you can also hand stencil on the designs if you’re comfortable doing that
- Craft Paint (I used white, orange and green) and brushes
Begin by sanding your wood pieces, if necessary. Give them one or two coats of stain, depending on how light or dark you want them to be. Use gloves to protect your hands. Allow the stain to dry/set completely (overnight is best).
Place the wood pieces snuggly together, all lined up evenly, and use a staple or nail gun to secure the support pieces in the back.
Now cut your lettering and pumpkin designs, if you’re going that route, or simply paint them on by hand if you choose.
I cut my vinyl designs with my craft cutter, then removed the inside of the design, used transfer paper to move it to my board, and painted in the design. Be sure to carefully remove the vinyl afterwards so you don’t smear the paint.
I used the “Winter Calligraphy” font for the “Hello” and the “Nouradilla” font for the “Fall”. I curved the text in my design studio for a fun effect. I purchased the pumpkin pattern from the design shop.
I love how it turned out! Fall is my favorite season and I’m so glad I get to share it with those I love!
