Show your love and appreciation for friends and family this Valentine’s Day with a DIY Fruit Bouquet! It’s a gift that’s straight from the heart!
I’ve mentioned before how much I enjoy giving handmade gifts. They are so meaningful, memorable and personal! With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, I’ve got a handful of wonderful friends on my mind who deserve some recognition and some serious spoiling! Valentine’s Day is one of my most favorite holidays because it’s an occasion to celebrate those we love-whether friends, family, teachers, or a significant other, and the list could go on.
So I decided to try my hand at making a fruit bouquet for one of those amazing friends. If I’m feeling ambitious, I’ll make a few more before the special day. 🙂
The heart-shaped strawberries are so perfect for the occasion! And of course, the gift just wouldn’t be complete without a cute card or two!
Since Valentine’s Day is on a Wednesday this year, and knowing how the middle of the week is always a crazy time at our house, I’m finding ways to simplify and still give the perfect gift to those who are near and dear to me! American Greetings has a full line of tissue paper, gift wrap, gift bags, cards, bows, and more to make gift giving so easy and so pretty too!
A fresh fruit bouquet plus American Greetings cards equals pure bliss!
Cards make such a thoughtful statement! So I snagged a bunch, along with some gift wrapping supplies during my last trip to Walmart, in preparation for the big day. I love that there were so many card themes to choose from…playful, romantic, humorous, etc. It was easy to find just the right one for each of the wonderful people in my life!
Be sure to get in on THIS Ibotta offer where you can buy 1 card and earn $1.00!
And, since we’re on the topic of love, what’s not to love about a chance to win a great prize?! You can do just that by participating in the#SendingMyLove #Sweepstakes (ends 2/13/18)! See the official rules here.
And then I went home and put together a cute mini edible bouquet! I promise you it’s not nearly as hard as it looks! It came together really quickly and was such a fun project! All while working on it, I was thinking about how I adore my friend. She has so many great qualities which I try to emulate and she truly means the world to me!
Here’s how to make it:
You’ll need grapes, pineapple, cantaloupe, honey dew, strawberries, a flower cookie cutter, a good knife and good scissors, wooden skewers, a wide-mouthed metal bucket, a pot or vase, craft foam and paper filler.
Begin by cutting a circle (or as close as you can get to a circle) of craft foam to fit nicely inside your bucket. I first filled my bucket with a few small rocks to make sure it was weighted down. Place your craft foam inside, and cover it with paper filler.Â
Cut heart strawberries by cutting a “V” shape to remove the stem, then slicing it down the middle lengthwise. Slice your pineapple into 1/2″ rounds. Press the cookie cutter into it, centering the core of the pineapple in the flower. Remove the core with a tiny circle cookie cutter or your knife.
Place a grape in the center of the flower and insert the skewer through the pineapple flower, through the grape, then through the other side of the flower to secure everything nicely. I made three flowers, but the number you’ll need will depend on the size of your arrangement. Insert the flower skewers into the craft foam. Cut or break the skewers at different lengths to add varying heights, if you’d like.
Carefully skewer the strawberry hearts and insert them into the craft foam at varying heights. I found, especially the further along I got into the project, it was actually easier to first insert the skewer on its own and then add the fruit on it.
Slice cantaloupe and honey dew melon thin, then remove the outside casing and cut into three pieces. Use the two outside pieces as “fillers” and color boosters in the arrangement.
That’s it! You can totally make one too! Fruit Bouquets are fancy and impressive, but not hard to accomplish on your own!
Plan to deliver it very soon (if not immediately) after finishing it, as the cut fruit perishes quickly in the open air (especially the pineapple).
I just love how this gift turned out! Who would you give this to?
