Organize those mismatched socks with this “Lost Socks Seeking Sole Mates” laundry room Pallet Board Sign!  Plus, my go-to method for keeping those soiled socks clean and bright!

We’ve loved our first eight months in our new home in the mountains.  Our family spends much more time enjoying our surroundings here.  I love that we have so much space to run wild and free, playing hide and seek, catching lizards, digging in the sandbox and swinging high enough to touch the trees.  It’s been my dream for us to have a life full of new adventures and exploration outdoors.

On multiple occasions, we’ve ditched the shoes and run around outside in our socks. I guess we like the freedom of being shoeless at times without having to feel the pokes of the stickers that are everywhere. 🙂

So it’s no surprise that laundry has been a greater challenge to tackle since our move.  Especially since I’m very particular about keeping those colors and white socks vibrant and stain-free.

Laundry has always been one of my least favorite household chores, but, since I gave the room a refresh recently, it’s become my happy place.  Washing, drying and folding has become rather therapeutic as I work in the newly-revamped area.

And even though the kids’ clothes hit the hamper super soiled after a day of rough and tumble play outdoors, it’s nothing that I can’t handle because I’ve got Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover on my side.

It’s easy to find on the “Stain Removers” aisle at Walmart.

Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover is packed with stain-fighting ingredients and enzymes to quickly penetrate, break up and remove tough stains.  So I don’t let something like muddy socks or red juice spots get me down!

Its trigger makes it oh-so convenient for dispensing directly onto the targeted area. Its triple acting formula clings, penetrates, and lifts away stains.

So I don’t cringe at all from dirt or grass stains because I know those clothes will come out looking like a million bucks once Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover does its job.  Plus, it’s safe for all colorfast washables and works in all water temperatures.

Now, we couldn’t talk laundry without addressing the topic of those missing socks.  You know the ones I mean…not sure how it happens, but they seem to disappear into thin air!  Either that or the invisible laundry monster eats them.

Since I’m always looking for ways to “cute-ify” and organize my laundry room, I put together this “Lost Socks” pallet board sign to display the lonely socks that are looking for a mate. This way, they’re always staring us in the face so we can be on the lookout for their companion.

I just love the weathered look that the stain lends to the pallet wood and the wooden clothespins that give it an “old-fashioned laundry” feel.

Here’s how I made it:
We had a pallet board laying around from our new sink delivery during our kitchen renovation, so I put it to good use.

Use a jigsaw to cut three pieces of pallet wood.  Cut along the edge of the existing supports that run up and down.  This yields perfect-sized pieces for the sign. You’ll want one wider piece and two narrower pieces.

Next, create a support for the back by cutting a piece of heavy cardboard to fit over all the pieces.  Or use a thin piece of wood.  Use a manual heavy duty staple gun to attach it to the wood pieces.

Now, turn it over and use an old sock or rag to rub wood stain all over the pieces.  I actually stained my pieces first, but either order works.  I used walnut-colored stain.
Now we’ll paint on the lettering.  I used my Silhouette machine to cut the design and then punched out the letters.  Using the cardstock as my stencil, I pressed it really close to the wood and worked one letter at a time with a foam brush and white paint. I used the “Lantagenet Cherokee” font for the “Lost Socks” portion in 12″x4″ and the “Variane Script” font in 12″x2″ for the “Seeking Sole Mates” portion.  I did some touch-ups on the letters with a brown permanent marker. Lastly, hot glue on some wooden clothespins at the base and attach a piece of twine on the back of the top with your staple gun.
Now hang it and add those socks that are seeking mates!  Happy laundry doing!
