Guest Bed Re-Do and Welcome Basket Idea

Give guests the royal treatment when they come to visit with this goodie gift basket and a bright and happy bed on which to rest.
Since we live far away from all of our extended family, we like to make our home as welcoming as possible in the hopes that they’ll want to come visit us often. 🙂  Up until a short while ago, our guest quarters was in desperate need of help, as you can see below.
It was sort of the “catch all” area where the kids felt free to play and jump.  Well, not anymore! We’ll be hosting their Grandma and Grandpa for the holidays, so I wanted to spiff up the place and give it a new, refreshing look!
Because if the grand babies aren’t incentive enough to get them out here, maybe this newly-revamped space will be! 🙂
So I headed to Big Lots and found everything I needed to give the area a nice refresh.  I picked up a fabric-lined wire basket, some yummy treasures and a few luxuries like a loofa, silky-smooth body wash and lotion, a fall-scented candle, and fluffy white towels, so I could put together a gift basket as well.  Because it doesn’t hurt to spoil them a little and make them want to come back soon.  🙂
And I added a cute tag (available in yellow and gray) to the front, which you can download and print below.
I’ve always been a huge fan of the yellow and gray combo, so when I spotted this quilt set at Big Lots, it was love at first sight.  I was all heart eyes for this beauty!  So I took it home and now our guest bed looks like new!
I had the time of my life shopping.  I had allotted myself about a half an hour to be in the store so I could run a few other errands before my baby’s nap, but I walked out of the place much later than planned. 🙂  It was so easy to do…I kept getting side-tracked with all the fun stuff! Like the fashionable fall decor, the beautiful red pots and pans (my weakness), adorable holiday wax warmers and delicious scents! 🙂 I didn’t want to leave!
The employees were so nice and helpful when I asked about the location of various items on my list.
The only thing that got me out that door was my anxiousness to get home and see how the new quilt, shams and pillows looked all set up!
It turned out just like I envisioned, even better if that’s possible!  That geometric pillow has my heart.  I’m a sucker for beautiful quilts, and I figure we can throw a thick blanket under it in the winter so our guests will stay toasty warm when it’s bitter cold here in the mountains.
Putting together the welcome basket was super simple.  Here’s how to do it:
I rolled the towels and placed them in the wire basket, then arranged the smaller items around and between them.  Lastly, I cut out the tag, punched two holes on top and bottom, then used some mini pom pom ribbon to attach it to the front of the basket.

Then I placed it on the bed so our guests will have a nice surprise when they first enter the now happy-looking, inviting room.
What do you think of the new look? I couldn’t be more pleased! I’m sure I’ll be heading back to Big Lots soon for more decor goodies before company arrives!
What home projects are you working on right now? I’d love to hear about them in the comments section!

I would certainly feel at Home in that lovely room. I'm so glad I saw your post as I am just into exactly this; we redid the two guest room areas, bathroom and walking closet that was my girls before. I love your bed linens, beautiful ! FABBY
