Holiday Party Recipes: Tabasco Cheddar Biscuits

The holiday season is upon us, and that means lots of fun gatherings with the ones we hold dear and, by default, lots of delicious party food to enjoy!  These Tabasco Cheddar Biscuits enhanced with Green Pepper Sauce will be the stars of any festive event where they make a yummy appearance!

Food has a way of bringing everyone together, don’t you think?  Isn’t it funny, how, a home can be full of square footage and space to occupy, and yet everyone still seems to gather in the kitchen without fail?  I completely understand why.  I mean, where the sustenance is, there I am also.  🙂  It just makes sense.

We’ll be hosting friends for lunch on Christmas day, and I know these perfect biscuits need to show their faces again there.  These are a yummy ice-breaker appetizer or munchie for the guests to enjoy before everyone shows up, or they can hold their own as a side to a breakfast casserole or baked ham.  You name it, and the occasion and timing is just right for these puppies!
I added a few teaspoons of Tabasco into the mix for added flavor, and the end result was not spicy in the least!  I think sometimes people get the wrong idea about Tabasco.  It’s not necessarily make-you-sweat hot.  In fact, the savory Green Jalapeno Pepper Tabasco Sauce that I used in today’s recipe is very mild.
I basically use Tabasco in everything from breakfast casseroles to burritos, enchiladas, burgers, dips, and now Cheddar Biscuits!  I keep a colorful Tabasco within arm’s length so I can add a few splashes here and there when I feel like it, and I often do.
Here’s how you make these Tabasco Cheddar Biscuits.  They come together in a hurry, but just be sure to serve them fresh out of the oven because that’s when they’re best!
{TABASCO CHEDDAR BISCUITS}
Adapted from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 Tablespoons butter, cold
1 cup buttermilk (I just add 1 Tbsp. white vinegar to the bottom of the measuring cup and then fill the rest with milk and let sit for a bit)
3 teaspoons Tobasco Green Pepper Sauce
1 1/4 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
Biscuit Wash
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon Tabasco green pepper sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.  In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, garlic powder and salt.

Add cold butter in thin slices.

Cut in butter until coarse crumbs are formed.  I used my pastry blender.

Lightly mix in grated cheese.

Add buttermilk and Tabasco sauce.

Stir just until moist (dry spots here and there are ok because the biscuits will be tough if they are overmixed).

Drop the biscuits onto a greased baking sheet.  Bake for 10-13 minutes, until browned and golden.  While the biscuits are baking, make the wash for the top.  In a small bowl combine melted butter, Tabasco Green Pepper Sauce, garlic powder and a pinch of salt.  Right when the biscuits come out of the oven, brush the butter mixture over the biscuits evenly (or just dip the top of the biscuits into the mixture).  Serve immediately.
I had fun browsing the Tabasco flavor varieties and re-stocking my supply on my last trip to Walmart.  One can never have too much Tabasco sauce, after all.

Tabasco makes some wonderful varieties in addition to the Green Pepper Sauce used today.  I also grabbed some original Red Pepper Sauce and Chipotle Pepper Sauce!  This stuff can be used on basically any food to step up the flavor and add an extra yummy factor.

These warm and cheesy, totally delectable biscuits look gorgeous and inviting when served on a pretty Christmas plate!  Just be warned…they’ll disappear in a flash!
