I love a clean, sanitary house and I’m passionate about creating with my kids! How do the two connect, you might ask? I’ll tell you today how I achieved my healthy home with family-safe cleaning products, serving dual purpose as an ingredient for some fantastically fun Magic Dough for kids!
There’s a story behind how this dough came to be.
Once upon a time, a very curious, cute little boy saw mommy mixing in the kitchen. It was something he’d seen many times before, but he was puzzled at the bottle of laundry detergent on the counter. It certainly seemed a very unusual ingredient.
“What are you making, Mom?” he asked.
Well, Mom wasn’t quite sure what to call it yet, but because she’s supposed to know everything, she responded, not missing a beat, with “Magic Dough!” The boy’s curiosity was peaked and he leaned in close to the bowl to watch the extraordinary mixture take life (almost literally).
“What’s magic about it?”, inquired the boy.
Again the mother thought quickly. “Well, it looks sort of like Play Dough, but it plays like Taffy, except without the sticky, of course!” The boy was intrigued, so he took some in his hands and the rest is history.
Stretching and pulling, he realized once again that Mom is always right. This dough really was magic! When he held it up or set it in his palm for a little bit, it oozed like it was alive (or had a mind of its own), yet it kept its shape when he continuously worked with it, balling it from hand to hand. Amazing! The boy decided it was worth sitting still for half an hour, if it meant experimenting with something so incredible and getting a little bit messy in the process. The boy and his Magic Dough lived happily ever after.
I do love a fairy tale ending!So do you want to make your own now? It’s so easy! One of the best parts about it is that it comes together in less than a minute and doesn’t have to be cooked!
Before beginning the Magic Dough-making process, I ran to Walgreens and browsed the “Cleaners” aisle, in search of the perfect detergent to include in the mix.
I found it in the #WalgreensOlogy Spring Lavender & Vanilla Detergent. I love that, not only does it fight stains, but it’s free of harmful chemicals, which is important to me as a Mom to young children. And it makes a wonderfully-fragrant Magic Dough! I also appreciate that it’s clear, so I can add my own coloring to the dough mix, if I like.

I picked up some other great Ology products as well while I was at Walgreens so I can finish my spring cleaning regime.I keep the Ology All-Purpose Cleaner in my kitchen so I can quickly wipe down the counters, sink, and stove after each meal. I love that, like Ology’s other products, it’s family friendly, so I don’t have to worry if my kids are swarming (like they usually do) while I clean. Somehow whatever mommy’s doing is always so fascinating! But I’m flattered that they think I’m cool. I just hope that continues to their teenage years. 🙂

MAGIC DOUGH}

1 cup cornstarch
1/2-3/4 c. clear liquid laundry detergent (like Ology Spring Lavender & Vanilla Detergent)
8-10 drops food coloring
Add cornstarch to bowl. Begin by adding 1/2 c. laundry detergent. Stir, then add more detergent if the mixture is too dry or more cornstarch if mixture is too wet. If you’d like it to be more “oozy”, add less cornstarch.
Once the mixture is blended well enough, begin working it with your hands. This is where the kids come in! They love to get messy, right?
As you can see, the mixture above is too runny, so I added a little more cornstarch, mixed some more and…..
Voila! Just the right consistency!
Ready. Set. Play!
Use Ology Paper Towels and a little warm water to remove excess dough from the counters. How’s that for easy cleanup?!
My son had a great time playing with the wondrous Magic Dough while I conquered laundry mountains with Lavendar-scented detergent in the room next door.
