Patriotic Mantel/DIY Red, White, and Blue Crafts

The kids are out of school now…hooray for summer vacation!  This means that one of my favorite holidays is fast-approaching, so I just had to pull out my box of patriotic decorations the other day and put them up.
Each year I use a few of the same elements to adorn my Fourth of July mantel and then arrange them differently so it still looks like a fresh design.  This time I added in a few new DIY items for a fun change-up.
Everything is handmade, and some are of course Pinterest-inspired. 🙂  Most of the pieces are surprisingly easy to put together!
Here’s what I came up with this time around.
Scroll down to see an item-by-item breakdown.

Subway Art: Find the free printable at The Crafting Chicks.  I pulled out my white frame that I use for pretty much every holiday, slipped in the printable, and hung it front and center.

Stars and Stripes Canvas: I was inspired by THIS idea from Craftaholics Anonymous and then gave it my own spin.  Instead of using wood, I grabbed a square white canvas that I had bought at Hobby Lobby on mega clearance, taped off the negative space that I wanted to stay white, and painted the rest red.  Then I painted some foam stars blue, also from Hobby Lobby, and hot glued them to my canvas.

Paper Medallion Candy Jar:  Find the tutorial HERE.

Framed USA Picture: I had the fun-shaped red frame already (from Hobby Lobby) and just downloaded and cut out a USA shape from the Silhouette Design shop.  I added in the “USA” letters over the top of the design before cutting.

Wood Post Fireworks:   I made a set of 3 Firecrackers, but displayed only 2 to conserve space.  Find the tutorial by Oopsey Daisy HERE.  I didn’t see it mentioned in her instructions, but the unpainted small wooden stars can be purchased at Hobby Lobby.

Simple Stars Banner:  I found a skewed star stencil in my craft stash, traced it on red, white, and blue patterned paper, cut them out, then used a needle and a few pieces of white thread to string them all together.

I think that covers it all!  Stay tuned for the Paper Medallion Candy Jar Tutorial coming soon.
I’m a huge red, white, and blue fan.  What about you?
Bring on the parade, the BBQ and fireworks!  I love America!
