These Turtle Krispies Treats with browned butter and loaded with dark chocolate, Rice Krispies, melted caramel and hazelnuts are the bomb! There’s just no other way to put it.
If you love Turtle chocolate candies, you will surely do flips for these. For real. I never knew I was gymnastically gifted until I took a bite of these pieces of heaven. Ha! Just kidding. I am so not flexible.
I concocted these incredible treasures as part of this month’s Mystery Dish Challenge. Yes, it’s that time of the month again! I love it! Rebecca from Living Better Together was our wonderful host and asked us to use at least three ingredients from the following list:
Hazelnuts
Pork Belly
Dark Chocolate
Cranberries
Bourbon
Red Potatoes
Pimento Cheese
Ginger
Yogurt
French Bread
Buckwheat

Because I sincerely enjoy coming up with new and delicious ways to use Rice Krispies in desserts, I gladly accepted the challenge.
Holiday baking is so fun! Do you agree? I basically live in the kitchen beginning November 1st, but there’s no place I’d rather be. Since I am a total foodie, especially “dessertie” if I can coin the term, I jump at any excuse to make a sweet treat, enjoy a few bites myself, and then give the rest away to friends and loved ones, and this is the perfect time of the year for that.
{TURTLE RICE KRISPIES TREATS}
Base:
3 Tbsp. butter
5 1/2 c. mini white marshmallows
1 c. dark chocolate chips (I use Nestle)
6 c. Rice Krispies cereal
Topping
1 c. caramel bits
1 Tbsp. milk
1/2 c. chopped hazelnuts
1/2 c. dark chocolate chips
Melt butter in large pan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Brown butter by allowing it to cook for slightly longer than usual, while still stirring constantly. It will turn a light brown. Immediately add mini marshmallows and dark chocolate chips and stir over heat until mixture is melted completely, smooth, and completely combined. Add Rice Krispies and stir to fully incorporate chocolate mixture.
Spread and press into a greased 9″x13″ pan and let set.
Make topping by melting caramel bits with milk in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between. Drizzle on top of Rice Krispies treats. Melt dark chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between. Drizzle over caramel. Sprinkle chopped hazelnuts on top. Let set, cut, and serve. Cover until you’re ready to eat.
Consider these my early Christmas gift to you! I wish I could wrap a bunch up and send them to each of you, but since I can’t, you’ll have to make some and give them to yourself. 🙂 Yes, you have my permission to indulge away!
Browning the butter really enhances the flavor of these pretty chocolate, caramel nut squares, so be sure to not skip that step. These would make a perfect neighbor holiday gift! Homemade gifts are especially impactful, don’t you think? Especially if they involve chocolate and caramel. I know I gladly welcome any and all desserts that get dropped at my door when the most wonderful time of the year hits, or any time of the year, for that matter.
Enjoy!
Look what the rest of the talented bunch made this month!
