What makes a peppermint candy cane milkshake even better? Chocolate! This yummy, festive dessert drink just screams “It’s the holidays!”
I have a rule that I don’t generally like to drink my calories. I prefer to eat them instead. However, this rule comes with the exception of milkshakes. I could enjoy them for every meal and never tire or want for anything else. 🙂
Throw in some festive red and white peppermint christmas candies, and a drizzle of melted chocolate on top, and I become weak at the knees! I imagine this is something Santa wouldn’t mind seeing at the table alongside a plate of cookies when he arrives on the night of Christmas Eve. 🙂
{CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT MILKSHAKE}
Makes approximately one 16 oz. shake
1/2 cup peppermint candy cane pieces, roughly broken (save 1 tsp. for topping)
2 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp. peppermint extract
1 drop red food coloring (optional)
1 Tbsp. melted chocolate chips for drizzling on top
Whipped cream for topping
Roughly break the candy canes up so you can measure 1/2 cup. Throw all but 1 tsp. of them into your blender along with the vanilla ice cream, milk and peppermint extract and food coloring (optional). Blend until combined, or until the desired texture is reached. I liked it to have some slightly chunky candy pieces lingering, so I pulsed it until that happened. Pour into a mug or mason jar and serve with a big dollop of whipped cream, the reserved candy pieces, and a drizzle of melted chocolate chips on top. Enjoy!
This is a no-fail recipe because if the shake is too thin, just add more ice cream. If it’s too thick, add more milk. It’ll only taste better!
My sister and her family visited for Thanksgiving, and the day after, instead of battling the crowds in Black Friday shopping, we stayed home and crafted and baked together. It was heaven! I’ll take that any day over standing in line for hours, weaving carts in a jam-packed store, and fighting over that coveted sale item. I’ll happily conquer my Christmas gift list online, thank you. Are you the same?
So anyway, I whipped up a bomb Peppermint Milkshake in my Nutri Ninja Blender (that I first broke in with this easy Blender Tortilla Soup recipe) while we were enjoying the peace and comfort of staying inside on the craziest day of the year. Our husbands played board games out in the “man cave” and we shared this fun mason jar of peppermint goodness without them even knowing. 🙂 When they came back in, the evidence was completely gone.
My sister said it tasted just like the Peppermint Milkshake from Chick-fil-A and I’ll have to take her word on that, because I’ve never had one. And, now that I can make my own copycat version, I may never try theirs, though I love me some Chick-fil-A. 🙂
I’m thinking “A Peppermint Milkshake a day keeps the Dr. away” will be my motto this holiday season. But then I could pose as Santa Clause with his plump, round jolly belly, so maybe I better not follow through with it. 🙂
Enjoy and a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you!
