DIY Duck Tape Valentine’s Pouch and Kids’ Cupid Tradition

This post brought to you by Duck Brand provided by ShurTech Brands, LLC. All opinions are 100% mine.

Would you believe that these Valentine’s Pouches are made with Duck Tape®?

Well you should.  Because they are. 🙂
You all probably know by now how much I love creating with Duck Tape®.  With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, I wanted to come up with a fun way to use the new Duck® brand patterns which were so perfectly designed for the special day.
My kiddos just love traditions centered around holidays, so I decided to make some Valentine’s Pouches that will hang over their kitchen chairs.  Each night when they go to sleep, Cupid will come put a special surprise in their pouch that they will wake up to find the next morning.  We’re talking candy, pencils, bubbles, love notes, stickers, balloons…really inexpensive stuff that’s exciting to kids. 🙂
You will be utterly amazed at how quickly these pouches come together!  I made one for each of my kids in under 30 minutes!
{SUPPLIES}

You’ll need a few patterns of Valentine’s patterned Duck Tape®.  It comes in all the fun and sassy varieties shown above!  I’m a huge fan of all of them, but the animal print with lips is my favorite. 🙂
The only other supplies you’ll need are a hole punch, wax paper, scissors, ribbon (I used rick rack) and treasures that will go inside!

Start by overlapping four strips of Duck Tape® on a sheet of wax paper.  My dimensions were approximately 8″x8″.  It’s totally fine if they’re not perfect.  Use more strips if you want the pouch to be larger.

Peel the tape off and lay on a surface, sticky side up.  Then repeat the previous process for what will become the backing for what you just made.  Essentially we want to cover the sticky sides.

Stick your newest layered tape piece on top of your first piece, sticky sides together.  Be careful to lay it flat and smooth it so there are no bubbles.

Now make a heart pattern that will fit inside your tape, trace around and cut out.

Repeat the above process once more so you’ll have a front and back to the pouch.

To make your next design that will decorate the front of the pouch, and others that will have a sticky backing, be sure to set up your wax paper like above.  Place the tape strips so the center will be aligned with the folds in your wax paper.  This ensures that you’ll be able to remove the wax paper after cutting the design.  I didn’t do this at first and it was still possible, but definitely much more difficult.

Now we’ll make the heart design for the front.  Overlap four strips of a contrasting patterned tape.  You can make this slightly smaller than your original piece.

Cut out a smaller heart pattern that will fit inside your original heart nicely.  Trace the pattern onto your tape, or hold firmly in place while you cut around it.

Remove the wax paper backing and stick the heart onto what will be the front of your pouch.

Add any other embellishments that you’d like at this point.  I made a simple smaller heart in silver metallic Duck Tape®.

Now put front and back hearts together and hole punch around close enough that no small items in your pouch will fall out.  Stop punching before getting to the curved tops of your heart.
Thread together, starting at the bottom center, with a long piece of ribbon or rick rack.  Tie in back and trim so no excess ribbon shows in front.

Fill with goodies, and you’re done!  I love the retro-looking hot pink and metallic tape combined with the lips/animal print variety.  The neon green rick rack makes it pop even more!

Now hang on a chair and wait for Cupid to visit and fill with sweet surprises. 🙂
This is the perfect Valentine’s Day craft and would also make great gifts to young ones!
