Probably my most favorite Christmas colors are those found in a peppermint candy…red and white. I think they’re absolutely gorgeous together! So most of my holiday decor is in those hues.
Last year, I made a pretty and very simple runner for my table in my favorite festive colors. It took only about half an hour and makes a huge statement in my dining area. It reminds me of Santa, and makes me happy, like the jolly old man, every time I pass by.
I didn’t want to make the typical full table length runner this time so I opted for a shorter rectangle runner and centered it. Mine measures 39 1/2″ x 14 1/4″. It’s the perfect size and adds a wonderful pop of holiday cheer, don’t you think?
It’s a snap to put together and requires only a few inexpensive supplies:
{What you’ll need}
Red Felt
Red and white gingham ribbon
White Rick Rack
White Felt
A sewing machine and thread.
- Cut your red felt to whatever size will look nice on your table, in a rectangular shape. Leave 1/4″ extra in your calculations for seam allowance on all sides.
- Now, starting on whichever side you choose, tuck under your felt 1/4″ and sew straight down. Pin first if you need.
- Do the same for the rest of the sides, folding the raw edges under 1/4″, pinning and sewing.
- Now grab your white rick rack and sew over the top of the stitches you just made. Mine came all the way to the edges of the runner.
- To make your gifts, cut two squares out of white felt. Position on your runner, pin, and sew around. Sew two strips of gingham ribbon in a cross pattern on the felt. Now tie a pretty bow with the gingham ribbon and tack it to the top center of the gift. Repeat for the other felt gift.
That’s it!
I placed some tall white votive candles (from the dollar store) in two glass hurricanes and filled them partially with peppermint candies. So pretty! I spray painted some pine cones white, that we’d found on a hike, to add a little more winter pizzazz to the piece.
To me, simple is beautiful! Such a fun and festive table decoration!
Have a nice day!
Hugs!!!
