Make lunch time fun at school for the kids with a surprise foldable love note with a special message hidden inside!
My kids are having mixed emotions about the fact that school starts again for them in just over one week. They’re so sad to have to say goodbye to their carefree days of almost nonstop playing, but they’re excited for the prospects of meeting new friends and a new teacher. I’m looking forward to getting into a routine again. I’ve loved having the kids home and being spontaneous with them, but I crave a schedule!
I’m getting geared up to become a peanut-butter-and-jelly-sandwich-making-machine again in the mornings! 🙂 I love coming up with simple ways to get my kids excited to open their lunch box each day. One way that I do that is by switching up their favorite PB&J sandwich. This time I used a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shape in one slice of bread and then making the rest of the sandwich as usual. Then I slipped the love note into the box. Combined, it’s a cute and simple way to put a smile on the kids’ faces!
We keep loads of Smucker’s Strawberry Jam and Jif Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter at-the-ready for school morning lunch prep. They’re our favorite!
We dropped by our local Dollar General and stocked up!
I have a great way to save money on school lunch ingredients! Save $1.00 on Jif and Smucker’s Fruit Spread when you buy 1 Jif Peanut Butter and 1 Smucker’s fruit spread. Offer ends 8/20/17. Grab your coupon here.
This quick folded love note is so easy and won’t take but 30 seconds! Whenever I go the extra mile like this, my kids come home with a story to tell about how lunch time was the best ever! Haha! 🙂 It’s the little things that make all the difference!
Here’s how to do it:
You’ll need to start with an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper. Fold it in half the skinny way. Now unfold. Next, fold the two top corners into the center so you’ll have a triangle there and crease. Next, fold the sides into the center line and crease. Fold the bottom up about 3/4 of the way and crease. Now fold the top portion down over that and crease.
Now’s a great time to unfold it and write a secret heartfelt message inside! I secured mine closed with a piece of washi tape. Lastly, add the cute envelope to the kids’ lunch boxes and it’s sure to make their eyes light up when they open and read it!
I’m all about simple when it comes to putting together lunches (there’s never enough time in the morning), but there’s always a few spare moments to add a quick note to help make the kids’ day a good one! I know little gestures like this mean the world to my children! Because PB&J + a Secret Love Note = So Much Fun!!!
