Today I’m excited to share three simple and quick ways to refresh your living room, while still maintaining that family-friendly atmosphere.
I love that I’m in the stage of life where I have little kids running around, even if it translates into extra clutter or a “to do” list gone undone for a few days. I gave up on having a perfectly organized, immaculate dwelling when my first baby became mobile, and I haven’t turned back. That’s not to say that I don’t still strive for tidy-ness, but I’ve just come to accept that in order to have happy children and a sane mama, the house cannot be 100% orderly all the time.
At any given point in the day, it’s very likely that there are books scattered on the living room floor and game controllers on the sofas. I take pride in the fact that our house is the “fun place” where friends and neighbors come to spend time. But as a result, our spaces have a very “lived in” look. I don’t mind, because it also means that we feel comfortable kicking our feet up on the coffee table without fretting about the minor dents or scrapes that might result. These things just add to the character of the place and are proof that life exists in our home.
But, that being said, I also am much more patient and calm as a mother and wife when my surroundings are well kept. So over the past weekend, I gave my living room a little face lift in just a few easy-to-accomplish steps. The results just make me smile!
Here’s what I did in a jiffy that made all the difference!
1. Quickly shine up wood surfaces. As you can see, we have oodles of wood in our living room. It can easily take on a dull look, even if it’s regularly dusted with a cloth. And, if your house is anything like mine, the kids tend to leave their teeny fingerprints everywhere. 🙂 As much as I love those little manifestations that my children are enjoying life, I like to shine up my coffee table and entertainment center with Pledge Multi Surface. It takes just a minute and gives them an instant radiant glow. It also masks the fact that the furniture has gotten a good seven years of use by our family.
The minute I started spraying Pledge Multi Surface, the kids flocked to the wonderful “Rainshower” aroma and asked if they could help. I consented whole-heartedly, because I’ll take all the help I can get around the house, and because Pledge contains no harsh chemical smells. The kids sprayed to their heart’s content, then proceeded to press their noses to each surface, after wiping it down, while sniffing. 🙂
Pledge leaves no residue because it’s pH balanced and doesn’t strip away the finish of my beautiful wood. All in all, Pledge works wonders in brightening up my living room!
2. Store “cluttery” items in baskets for organization, easy access, and to hide them in a decorative way. I found this empty basket in a closet and put it to good use! My kids know where to put the game controllers now when they’re finished playing. And, my entertainment center has a much-needed appearance of order now!
3. Play around with pillows. To instantly change the look of a room or to better tie a room together, simply switch out decorative pillows on the couches. Along with paint, it’s one of the most inexpensive methods of adding new life and interest to a space.
My previous pillows were looking worn and tired, so I had fun shopping and picked up these beauties! I paired a fun gray pattern with a solid orange style with buttons. My couches are green, so I feel slightly limited sometimes with color choice, but I’m happy with what came of it! Now the room has a homey and comfortable appearance, but it also looks like I put some thought into it. And, the kids are excited about the new ammunition for their pillow fights! 🙂
Thanks to these three easy tips, my living room is looking rejuvenated! I’d call this project a complete success! And, it hardly put a dent in my precious Saturday time with my family!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
I remember early 1960s, Saturday mornings meant opening the windows, moving furniture, vacuuming, and dusting with lemon Pledge!
Having read this I believed it was rather enlightening. I appreciate
you taking the time and effort to put this content together.
I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and commenting.
But so what, it was still worthwhile!
