Get your back-to-school craft fix with this Stamped Corkboard Placemat! This spread is sure to put a smile on the kids’ faces before heading out the door to catch the bus!
I’ve talked here on the blog many times about my love/obsession for things that symbolize back to school, specifically school supplies. They’re just so bright and colorful and happy! But I also remember years ago, in the good old days, when I attended elementary school and the joy that a stamped star on my paper brought me. I’d burst through the door and show my mom the good work I’d been doing and how my teacher was proud enough to give me a golden yellow emblem on my sheet for it. 🙂
Every new year at school is like a clean slate, a fresh adventure just waiting to unfold…that’s what I tell my kids. There are new opportunities to learn and gain new friends, and of course lots of growing to do, both physically and mentally.
I have fond memories of my school days. I had some really great teachers and loved most every subject I studied. I remember particularly having a passion for spelling and creative writing. I enjoyed constructing art in the form of poetry and coming up with stories that really took the reader places.
I also can’t forget learning the times tables in class and how I’d get so excited to play the around-the-world game to challenge the students’ memorization skills in this area. One student would stand behind another student’s desk and the teacher would hold up a multiplication flash card and the first student to get it would get to keep moving from desk to desk until someone beat them to the answer. It was so thrilling and the fact that I excelled at it made me look forward to it even more. 🙂
And, I always loved a good game of Heads Up, Seven Up or Four Corners when our collective good behavior earned some free time in the classroom. Do you remember playing those?
I hope my kids are making memories now, like I did so many years ago, that they can recall later with fondness.
One thing I’m always sure to do is to send the kids out with happy tummies, filled with a yummy, satisfying breakfast to fuel them. We are big time milk drinkers in this house. In fact, funny story, there’s a friendly checker at Walmart whose line I always go to if she’s working at the time, and she likes to crack the joke each week that I might as well invest in a cow. We’re actually considering it. 🙂
If there’s one section at Walmart that I frequent, it’s the milk aisle!
I get the funny stares when I push my cart around with a cart full of milk gallons, but my family just can’t help ourselves! It’s a drink staple at our house. We feel like we’ve really missed out if we’re ever somewhere else besides home and don’t get to round off our meal with it.
I love that my kids love milk and we feel so blessed to have it in ample supply. It’s unfortunate that the story isn’t the same for others around the world. For many children who face hunger, even basic staples like milk – and the nutrients that help power childhood activities – are missing. This makes me sad to even think about!
Milk is naturally nutrient rich and powers potential – if you have access to it. Milk’s 9 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high-quality protein per 8 ounce serving, can help to ensure that kids have the potential to play, learn and grow-and we know how important that is!
Did you know that more than 46 million Americans – including 12 million children – rely on Feeding America food banks each year? Milk is one of the most requested, but least donated items at food banks, meaning children in need are missing out on the essential nutrients, including high-quality protein, it supplies.
While food banks provide critically needed nourishment – including milk – to millions of Americans, it can be difficult to meet demand. On average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year.
So this is where we come in! You and I can help feed a childhood – by purchasing 1 or more of these products. By doing so, we are helping Feeding America provide nutrient- rich milk to kids and families in need.
Be sure to visit HERE to learn about the need for milk in America’s food banks and how your small donation can make a big impact.
Because we’re always short on time in the mornings, I like to keep the fridge and pantry stocked with convenient items to accompany our glass of Great Value milk, like Lender’s Bagels and Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions. Convenience is key when I’ve got two kids to get ready and out the door before 8 AM.
The flavor combos between the Lender’s and Del Monte products are huge! The kids basically can “customize” their breakfast each morning to their liking. Which is a big deal, because we know how quickly moods and tastes can change when it comes to the younger ones. 🙂

And now that I’ve shared an easy breakfast idea with you, I can’t wait to show you how easy this stamped placemat is to pull off!
You’ll need some acrylic paint, some fine brushes (with thinner bristles so they won’t be unwieldy when painting the intricate surfaces of the stamps), some stamps (I chose some with the back-to-school theme), and an 11″x17″ piece of corkboard.
Begin by outlining the design in your chosen colors, then immediately stamping it on the corkboard. The paint will dry fast, so work as quickly as possible. You can practice on a sheet of paper first, if you’re nervous about how it will look. Then, use your paint brush to carefully fill in the design on the cork board, if necessary. I set a plate in the center of my mat first so I could gauge the placement of the designs. Repeat this process for all the stamps you’re using. For the pencil (my favorite part of this whole project), I painted the outlines in black, stamped it, then allowed it to dry before filling it in with the other paint colors. That’s it!
You can laminate it if you’d like, so it’s easy to wipe clean. Now let the kids enjoy a delicious breakfast on their new adorable placemat before heading off to school!
I hope you’ll join Feeding America in The Great American Milk Drive to help deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry children and families who need it most. More than 14 million servings of milk have been delivered to food banks through this first-of-its-kind initiative. This is such a worthy cause!
