Let the kids have fun mixing and stirring common ingredients from around the house to make their own magic potion in this memorable, exciting activity!

On many occasions lately, my kids will run outside and then come back with a cup full of mud and murky water, rocks, and sticks to show me. They love to make their own potions and then pretend what magic effect they would have on someone if they were to sprinkle it on them. 🙂

Sometimes they’ll start rummaging through the cupboards to find ingredients for the perfect spell concoction they’ve been dreaming up. They usually end up begging me to help them locate specific add-ins and then make me stand by and watch what happens while they stir them all together in the cup. Because you never know when there could be an unexpected chemical reaction between water, marshmallows, syrup and food coloring! Ha ha! All kidding aside, I love giving them opportunities to think scientifically and creatively.

So the other day when they walked in the door from school, I surprised them with this organized, more formal Magic Potion Station! They were ecstatic. 🙂

It was so easy to put together and was a HUGE hit with the kiddos! I’m pretty sure they could have spent all day mixing potions.

I gathered some items from around the house, along with some sulfate free all® fresh clean ESSENTIALS® for the potion base, and then headed outdoors to collect a few remaining key components.

It’s easy to find on the top shelf at Walmart in the laundry detergents aisle and is available in fresh scent or fragrance free.

We found that it was important to start with a clear-like liquid base, and sulfate free all® fresh clean ESSENTIALS® was just what we needed!

It’s a staple in my laundry room, too, as its sulfate-free formula infuses fabrics with essential, proven and effective ingredients that give them that deep cleaning. Heaven knows I couldn’t live without a stain-lifting laundry detergent, especially with four messy kids who like to make mud potions. 🙂

I’m also a huge fan of the fact that all the ingredients are listed on the back of the bottle, so I know exactly what’s going into my family’s laundry. And I know it’s going to ultimately give me that powerful clean I’m going for without the harshness.

Be sure to grab this digital coupon to receive $1.50 off one (1) all fresh clean ESSENTIALS®. Offer is valid from May 1st – July 31st or while supplies last.

Feel free to adjust the components as you please, but the following are some great mix-ins to make magic potions:

Sulfate free all® fresh clean ESSENTIALS®

Shaving Cream

Lotion

Leaves

Sand

Glitter

Salt

Twigs

Baby Powder

Small Rocks

Food Coloring

I also provided plastic cups with popsicle sticks for stirrers, labels and small clothespins to attach the labels.

I started by pouring in some Sulfate free all® fresh clean ESSENTIALS® and then the kids added color and more substance to it with a variety of other ingredients, as listed above. After the kids were finished with their creation, they came up with a title for their potion and we wrote out a label and pinned it on the plastic cups with our clothespins.

I really enjoyed watching each of the kids’ unique concoctions come to fruition. They all knew exactly what color they were going for and what they wanted to put in it. 🙂

This simple activity was so much fun and a great way to encourage learning and discovery, as the kids can experiment with different ingredients and amounts to make that special magic potion!

Now we can put a “Summoning”, “Intelligence”, or even a “Unicorn” spell on someone! 🙂 I love imaginative activities like this where kids can really be kids!
