I can’t wait to show you how easy it can be to put together a Minions Movie Party for family and friends to enjoy! All the details from the Mini Bapple Pies, to the Gelato to the minions play dough favors and DIY minions overalls banner are sure to be a hit!
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited we were for December 8th to arrive. That day may seem obscure to you, but we knew it was the day Illumination Entertainment’s Minions movie would release on blu-ray/DVD! And boy, did we purchase it in a hurry!
You can grab a copy for yourself HERE.
We saw Minions © 2015 Universal Studios. All rights reserved. in theaters and adored it so much that we knew we needed to own a copy for ourselves to watch over and over and over! 🙂
I wanted to make a fun occasion of our first time watching it in our home as a family, so I put together a simple party setup in our hutch so we could enjoy refreshments and such while we viewed the show.
We speak a lot of “minion” around our house. In fact, I’ve become quite adept at recognizing what my kiddos are saying based on my newfound grasp of the language.
The minions reference “bapples” (apples) on occasion, so I put together some cute Mini Bapple Pies to represent that aspect.
{MINI BAPPLE PIES}
Makes 7 mini pies in a muffin tin
1 box of two 9″ refrigerated pie crusts, or homemade
3 heaping cups apples, peeled, sliced thin and diced small (we like Granny Smith)
1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Apple decorations:
Red gum balls
Straight pretzels
Green jimmies
White frosting
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Start by preparing the apple filling. Stir together apple slices, sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside. Unroll one of your refrigerated crusts and, using a cupcake liner smashed flat as your guide, cut around it with a butter knife, leaving a little excess all around. Push the crust circle into your muffin tin.
Cut six more, using all the dough by balling it back together and rolling it back out, as needed. Place a big spoonful of filling in so it apples come to the top of the tin. Now cut thin strips out of your other pie crust, then cut them the width of your muffin tins, place two a little apart from each other, then weave two into those. Now go around the edges and pinch it all together using the index finger of one of your hands and the thumb and index finger of your other. Press it up against the muffin tin to prevent shrinking.
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and apples inside are soft.
To make the apple decorations on top, grab a sharp knife and carefully cut a hole in the top of a gum ball so it’s just large enough to fit a pretzel inside. Place a little frosting on the end of a straight pretzel and insert it into the gum ball. Snip off the excess pretzel so it looks like a stem. Place a single green sprinkle at an angle in the excess frosting for a leaf. Place the apple decoration on top of the pie. You may need to add a little frosting on the bottom of it to keep it in place.
Talk about cute! These were a hit!
I bet the minions would devour these pies, just like my own little minions did. 🙂
We just had to have “Gelato” with our Bapple Pies! In minion language, gelato is key word for ice cream, as you may know. So I scooped up some vanilla ice cream, placed it in yellow cupcake liners, doubled up, then gave them some blue and yellow sprinkles on top in true minion fashion. I love that this can be done ahead of time! I just stored these in the muffin tin in the freezer and pulled it out right before we were ready to start the party. Super easy!
I added some milk glasses on the side for filling with water, just to keep things simple and less messy since we were in a carpeted room.
I wanted to add some simple yet subtle decor, so I put together a banner to look like minions overalls hanging on a clothesline.
I first drew a pattern on regular paper, cut it out, then traced it onto blue cardstock. Then I cut those out, punched tiny holes and placed tiny black brads in for buttons. Then I drew on pockets with a blue permanent marker. Lastly, I just hung each of them with small clothespins on a piece of white string.
It gave the hutch just the look I was going for! I also threw some yellow chevron paper straws and striped wooden spoons in a small white bucket.
And, now for the adorable minions play dough party favors…
These are possibly my favorite element of the entire gig! You can either make your own play dough or purchase some in yellow and blue. Then, I just cut a small piece of blue for the bottom and topped it with a larger chunk of yellow that I shaped like a minion body. I placed it in a clear cellophane bag, then tied it with some black curling ribbon that I trimmed to look like their hair. Then I drew on the goggles and face with a black permanent marker. Easy peasy! The kids couldn’t wait to grab their adorable treasure and start squishing and molding after the movie!
As an option, you can add an simple “Thank You” tag in minion language. You’ll find the link to print that below.
