Patriotic Bookcase with Sauder

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Sauder. The opinions and text are all mine. It’s time to decorate for the Fourth of July! Have you done that yet? I took the opportunity to spruce up my new Library with Shelves from Sauder, which I absolutely adore.

We put it in our front living area where it’s sure to get lots of notice. The spot by our couch was in need of a “wow” factor, and it got it. The style of the piece melds perfectly with the decor theme in that room, since I have a curio cabinet on the other side of the sofa in the same antiqued finish and color.

I ordered it online a few weeks ago, and the process could not have been easier. Sauder’s website was super easy to navigate, and the “other items you may be interested in” section below the items I looked at gave me even more options that suited my taste. Although I didn’t need to use it, Expedition Design is a wonderful, inspiring tool that’s also available to help ease the selection process. The only difficult part was making a final decision. If my house had the space, I might have ordered three different styles of bookcases. 🙂

Another great option is to combine the hutch that I chose with two surrounding Library pieces, as shown below.

I received an email the day after placing my order, notifying me that it had shipped and then it arrived a little over a week later.

As soon as the happy delivery from Sauder arrived at my door, (insert giddy school girl shrieks), I put my husband to work assembling it. 🙂 He was kind enough to give up one of his lunch breaks during the week. I watched from the sidelines and acted as the handyman’s faithful assistant.

The assembly process was made much easier thanks to clear, easy-to-follow instructions and illustrations.

He began by sorting the pieces according to when they would be used.

The middle pieces easily popped into the side panels thanks to the amazing technology shown below.

These magical parts were life savers!

The design of this piece is sheer genius. Sauder thought of everything! See those handle grips in the back where the arrows are pointing? They make moving the furniture a breeze! Our feet and backs thanked us.

I love that it has a drawer and an enclosed area underneath. Ahhhh! Those washboard-style cabinet doors make my heart happy. It comes with three adjustable shelves, so I can conveniently move them based on the size of the items I’m displaying or storing.

I love the top curvature and the lovely decorative rounded feet that act as supports. It’s all about the details! This project fulfilled a DIY itch of mine, without all the extra work and headache that often are attached to “starting from scratch”. 🙂 Score!
Next came the fun part…decorating. With Independence Day just around the corner, I wanted to give my new library some red, white and blue love. I think the bold colors and patterns perfectly offset the antique, white finish of the bookcase. Don’t you?
When the holiday is over, I may fill it with books and DVDs and a few decor pieces interspersed. I’m a huge fan of how versatile this furniture piece is!

I used many decor pieces that I already had, and added a few new ones.

You can see the distress marks on the wood in this photo. So fun! I purchased the metal pinwheel and basket from Hobby Lobby. I cut out the USA shape (sorry…it’s not that faint in real life) on my Silhouette, then backed it with white paper and gave it a red, fun-shaped frame (also from Hobby Lobby). The quote block was a new piece that I picked up at Kirkland’s. I filled a jar with cinnamon bears and then threw in a large wooden firework in the back to tie it all together.

For the top shelf, I displayed a stars and stripes canvas that I made a few years ago. I added a blue-tinted glass jar, filled with red candies, a metal airplane from Hobby Lobby, and another homemade wooden firework. I attached a handmade Folded Paper Medallion Banner to accent the top. Catch the tutorial for the banner HERE.
It came together relatively quickly and without a hitch. We didn’t even have to call customer service! It’s a very affordable piece of furniture that looks like a splurge! This bookcase really completed the look in our living room.
