St. Patrick’s Day Rainbow Candy Kids’ Craft & Free Printable Coloring Page!

This Rainbow Craft using colorful candies and frosting is a tasty way to get your kids excited for St. Patrick’s Day!

I’m all about simple when it comes to crafting with my kids.  Often, they just want to color or make mini story books.  They keep occupied sometimes for hours with supplies so simple as crayons and paper.  So I designed a fun St. Patrick’s Day basic coloring page that can also act as a slightly more in-depth craft if you’d like.

If choosing the latter, just print on white (8 1/2″x 11″) card stock, glue on Skittles, M&M’s, jelly beans, or your choice of other colorful candies, then display!  If you want to ensure that the candies are still edible later, use frosting, like we did, to stick on the candies instead!  (Just be aware that the oils from the frosting will spread out on the cardstock.  To avoid this, laminate it first.)  Use the frosting from the tube to make it easier, or make your own Vanilla Buttercream like I did. Then, after St. Patty’s Day is done, the kiddos can pick off the treats and enjoy!  After all, I’d hate to see good candy go to waste.  🙂

As you may know, the original Skittles doesn’t come with blue, so I went to a gas station to get the “Wild Berry” kind, which includes blue.

Crayons (optional)

Working one section at a time, put a row of frosting on the top of the rainbow.  Push your skittles into the frosting, then continue down the design.  My kids learned the meaning of the acronym ROY G BIV, the colors of the rainbow!

If your kids are like my son, they’ll sit on the counter and lick the frosting as they go. 🙂  It’s part of the fun!

He had his own idea of how a rainbow should look. 🙂  I like to let my kids use their creative license, so though the OCD in me wanted to fix it, I refrained.

Once they’ve added on all the candy rows, they can decorate around the rainbow with crayons.  My daughter added a pot of gold on the cloud.

All done!  Isn’t it so fun?  A bright and colorful way to say Happy St. Patty’s Day!

It’d also be really cute to matte and frame this!

**If you’ll be doing the Candy Craft, be sure to print this on heavy cardstock.  Lighter paper will flex and and won’t be strong enough to hold the candies. My little ones had a great time over the weekend making this super simple craft.  And who knows, maybe Mr. Leprechaun will come soon and leave a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow!  We can hope. 🙂

This is soooo cute! I love it :) We have been doing some rainbow crafts but I love this. I guess you could do it with M&Ms or skittles. Super fun!
