The Chiquita Banana Sing-Off and My First Ever Music Video!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Chiquita Bananas. All opinions are 100% mine.

We go bananas for bananas at our house, so my kids and I had a blast putting together a fun skit/music video (our first, actually) this past weekend for our entry into the Chiquita Banana Sing-Off Contest!

First we formulated a grand plan.  The kiddos helped me come up with a few things that a banana resembles, such as a smile, a moon, a boat, and a person.  It was so easy to then turn the Chiquita bananas into these items.
Then, with the kitchen counter as our stage, we sang the Chiquita Banana Jingle while the kids helped the bananas “act out”, dance, and be silly.

Here’s our masterpiece.  I’m pretty sure we’re destined for Hollywood.  🙂

It’s definitely amateur, but we had the time of our lives creating this footage! 🙂
Did you know that you, too, can submit a music video and be entered to win a load of cash?!
It’s true!  Chiquita is looking for the next sing-off star, and it could be you! Enter the Chiquita Jingle Contest for your shot at $5,000!

I remember the catchy Chiquita banana tune getting stuck in my head while growing up, and now it’s back in full force!

The original version of the song, from 1944, goes like this:

“I’m Chiquita banana and I’ve come to say – Bananas have to ripen in a certain way – When they are fleck’d with brown and have a golden hue – Bananas taste the best and are best for you – You can put them in a salad – You can put them in a pie-aye – Any way you want to eat them – It’s impossible to beat them – But, bananas like the climate of the very, very tropical equator – So you should never put bananas in the refrigerator.”

“Chiquita Banana” (words and music by Garth Montgomery, Leonard Mackenzie, William Wirges) under license to Chiquita Brands L.L.C. © 1945 Shawnee Press Inc.

This fun jingle was introduced as a sort of informational snippet to educate Americans on how to ripen and use bananas which were, at the time, an exotic (and not widely-known) tropical fruit. Now, of course, bananas are just a delicious part of everyday life.  Aren’t we lucky?I may take it for granted that I’ve got a constant supply of Chiquita bananas within arm’s reach, but I certainly don’t let them go to waste.

The song has morphed a bit over time from its original form, but it’s still the “top-banana” in jingles. The current lyrics are as follows:

“I’m Chiquita Banana and I’ve come to say-I offer good nutrition in a simple way-
When you eat a Chiquita you’ve done your part- To give every single day a healthy start
-Underneath the crescent yellow -You’ll find vitamins and great taste-With no fat, you just can’t beat ’em-You’ll feel better when you eat ’em- They’re a gift from Mother Nature and a natural additional to your table-For wholesome, healthy, pure bananas look for Chiquita’s label! “
We couldn’t stop singing it for the rest of the day after finishing our video, and we couldn’t help but dance in the process.  :)To enter, you can create a Music Video, Sing-Along, a Banana-Gram, or all of the above!  Register here, and then select your style. The amazing prizes are as follows, in each category:
