I absolutely love throwing spooky, cute parties and this year it was in the form of a “Frightfully Delightful Halloween Party” with orange Fanta snacks and good times galore! I can’t wait to show you all the fun we had! Be sure to catch your free party printables at the end of this post!
It’s our tradition to host a Halloween party each year for friends. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to pull it off this time around, since I am in charge of our church Halloween party, which is a huge event.
But, I still couldn’t resist eeking in a little celebration of our own before the 31st arrives. I love all things about Halloween…the costumes, the candy, the carnivals, carving pumpkins, but probably most of all I look forward to the festive, creative foods. That is, so long as they are not too spooky or gory.
The backdrop was super easy and inexpensive to make. I grabbed a few packages of white tissue paper and, working one package at a time, unfolded it and cut two scalloped sections from it. I did the same for the other package. Then, working from the bottom to the top, I taped the separate pieces of tissue paper up in rows. It gives a big “wow” factor and some nice dimension without a ton of work and headache.Find out how to make the tissue paper ghost coming up soon on the blog. Keep your eyes peeled for that tutorial. 🙂
The Halloween banner is part of the “Frightfully Delightful Halloween Party Printables” that you’ll find the link to below. For the other table decorations, I just brought in decor pieces from around my home. You may recognize the 31 number blocks from last year’s post. I also mixed in a few mini battery-powered tea lights, so the table would stay lit as the sun went down.
I used lots of easy-to-find foods from Walmart to help make the spooky edible creations for this party. I stocked up on Fanta, because it was the star of my show! I just love that it’s orange. It just begged for me to turn it into a pumpkin. 🙂
An amazing Pumpkin Orange Soda Float, that is. I simply poured two (2-liter) chilled bottles of Fanta in the drink dispenser, added about a gallon of softened orange sherbet, and stirred it around so the sherbet melted a little into the soda but kept the fun foamy layer on top. Yum!

Fanta offers so many wonderful flavors, but the orange was perfect for Halloween eats and treats! I grabbed a bunch when I was shopping for party supplies at Walmart. You can attend an upcoming demo featuring Fanta, Oreos and Wheat Thins in Walmart Stores on the weekend of October 25th. I served the Fanta Pumpkin Float drink in small Mason jars with black pumpkin faces that I’d cut with my Silhouette and transferred to the jar fronts. The kids thought these were the coolest things ever!
I also provided Dasani waters for a non-sugary option to keep those thirsty guests well-hydrated. I used the Halloween drink labels that you’ll find through the link below.
Dasani offers a perfect 12 oz. size that is great to bring along trick-or-treating. Because if you’re like me and my kids, we do a lot of walking on Halloween night and need an easy, portable way to quench our thirst.
The cutest guests showed up to our party! My kids dressed as the Frozen characters and a few of their friends came as Cleopatra and a black cat. Adorable!
Next, I served the most delicious Orange Soda Poke Cake! It received lots of “ooooohhhhs” and “ahhhhhs” and mmmmmmmm!”s. Talk about pretty, too with all those layers and colors! The Fanta combines with orange gelatin and makes its way down into the pokes, creating a beautiful marbled orange and white effect. This cake is dreamy and SO easy to make!
{ORANGE SODA POKE CAKE}
1 box white cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare it
1 small box orange gelatin
1 c. orange Fanta soda
1 large box instant vanilla pudding, plus ingredients to prepare it
1 container (8 oz) whipped topping
Make and bake cake in a 9″x13″ pan according to package directions and let cool. Using the back of a wooden spoon or something else that’s rounded, poke holes in the top of the cake.
Pour your dry orange gelatin in a bowl and you’ll add to it the 1 c. of Fanta.
Whisk it together really well.
Now pour the mixture over the cake, ensuring that it gets down into those holes.
Prepare pudding according to package directions and let set in the fridge.
Spread pudding over cake.
Spread whipped topping on top of pudding, sprinkle with candy corns if you’d like, and store in the refrigerator until ready to eat.
Isn’t it pretty? Some little fingers kept coming and stealing those candies off the top, so by evening’s end, none were left. 🙂
I also served some Halloween Oreo Pumpkins. I made these by melting orange candy melts and covering the fronts of the cookies. Then I dipped straight pretzels in green candy melts and let them set, and cut them a bit so they would fit nicely into the in-between frosting in the Oreos. I finished them off with some cute pumpkin faces that I “drew” on with black decorator icing.
We served pizza that we’d purchased and then I made a Spooky Spider Web dip to go along with it.I had lots of Wheat Thins on hand for dipping. I love that Wheat Thins are mini, which makes them cute, but also so I don’t have to worry about double dippers (ha!). And they add the perfect slightly salty crunch to offset the tasty layers of beans, salsa, cheese, sour cream, and avocados. Yummy in my tummy!
{SPOOKY SPIDERWEB DIP}
1 can refried beans
Salsa
Sour Cream
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
3 avocados, blended smooth
fake spiders or spider rings
Spread refried beans on the bottom of a pie plate. Spread desired amount of salsa on refried beans. Spread desired amount of sour cream on salsa. Sprinkle shredded cheese on sour cream. Spread avocados on top of cheese. I blended a teaspoon or so of lemon juice in with my avocados to help them keep their color.
Place a couple big spoonfuls of sour cream in a re-sealable bag and snip the corner. Pipe sour cream on top of the dip in the shape of a spider web. I just made three circles and then lines coming down from the center. Insert fake spiders. Store in refrigerator until ready to eat. Serve with Wheat Thins for dipping.
After eating, we played a few rounds of Halloween bingo (free printables below). There can never be too much candy, at least in the kids’ minds. Am I right?
This game was an absolute riot. The kids, parents and I were laughing so hard. I termed it “Charades or Spin the Bottle” because it incorporates some of both. One guest spun the bottle and whomever it landed on got to come to the front and center of the room. I then whispered in his or her ear a phrase, animal, event, or object that’s often associated with Halloween. The guest had to act it out, without using sounds, and the kids had to guess what it was. I’m offering a free printable list of ideas at the end of this post, along with the other party printables.
I printed out a fun spiderweb paper design, trimmed, and taped it to a bottle of Dasani water. I also hot glued some Halloween ribbon to the bottle top. It’s an easy way to turn a plain water bottle into a vehicle for a fun Halloween game!
The kids enjoyed spinning the bottle and most of all, watching the crazy actions and trying to guess what Halloween term it could possibly be.
It was a hoot. The kids cracked each other up with their actions. Some of the prompts were quite challenging to portray without using sound! This game was so much fun!
Afterwards, the kids decided they wanted to turn off all the lights and tell spooky stories while holding their mini tea lights. Let’s just say I couldn’t help but giggle at their imaginations and animations.
It was a delightful but frightful evening filled with yummy festive food, good friends, and great entertainment.
My one friend told me that her kids couldn’t stop talking about how cool this party was. It was sure fun to host!
