Help the kids stay organized and on top of the school game in the new year with a simple, fun DIY Homework Station complete with homework-doing supplies and a snack basket!
How are your kiddos handling the back-to-school thing after the long holiday break? I’m not going to lie, mine did their fair share of whining, having to get dressed and ready early in the morning to hit the books once again.
But, after coming home they expressed their excitement that they got to see friends after the absence and start studying their favorite subjects once again.
One of my goals for this new year is to get organized in all things. I feel like once my kids get home, there’s always this frenzy of trying to grab a quick snack, doing homework, assigned reading and projects, and then squeezing in some time for chores, play time, and family time too.
So to cut down on the chaos, I created a simple homework station with all their necessary supplies and even snack and drink items in one place so they can just sit down at the table and start conquering those math problems. 🙂
I like to provide my kids with good “thinking” food while they’re doing homework, so I loaded a metal sectioned basket with Cuties and mini bottles of water. It’s no secret that we all have a sweet tooth at our house, so we love satisfying our cravings in a healthy way with oodles of Cuties!
These are a staple at our abode, for sure. The taste alone is enough to make one break into song and dance. See for yourself in this Cuties Music Video
I’m sure Cuties bring out some sweet moves in your kiddos too, so don’t forget to capture them on camera and share on social media for all your friends to see using #IWantCuties!
The Cuties Song is so simple and catchy, so help the kids learn it and then watch them get their wiggle on!
We love that they’re super easy to peel and taste just like candy but in a much better-for-you form! And they’re apparently perfect tools for making silly faces too. The kids like to place slices over their eyes and lips to see who can look the funniest. Ah, life’s simple pleasures.
Because I’m obsessed with labels, I added some fun “school-themed” tags to the refreshments basket, denoting the contents. You can download and print them below.
There were no complaints about having to do homework after getting home because the snacks called them to the table. I think they could smell the citrus from outside. 🙂

Our new homework center makes our after-school routine such a breeze! I just pull out the snack basket and supply buckets, and, bam! the kids are ready to attack the assigned spelling, science, and math pages with zeal!
What are your best ideas for encouraging your kiddos to stay on task after school? I’d love to hear in the comments section below!
