“Let Them Eat Pie” Vintage Summer Dessert Party

“This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and EDWARDS®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #EdwardsPies http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV”
If there’s one thing I just can’t get enough of this summer, it’s fun gatherings with fun people. I just love hosting simple get-togethers outdoors, and today’s Vintage Pie Party was an absolute blast! An after-dinner dessert bar is a perfect way to bond with friends!

It included all of my favorite things…pie, burlap, gingham, striped straws, Mason jars, and more pie.  The best part?  I didn’t even have to bake!  And…I set up the entire table while the EDWARDS® Whole Pies were thawing on my kitchen counter!
I was so glad the weather cooperated, because I really wanted everyone to be able to hang out outdoors. It’s monsoon season here and we typically get evening showers. As I was setting up, the dark clouds rolled in, the wind picked up, and it smelled like rain.  Eek!
But, in the end, we were meant to eat these yummy pies outside! We enjoyed the gorgeous evening to the fullest.

I can’t even count the number of times my mom used to say, “Let them eat cake”, growing up.  It’s a phrase attributed to Queen Marie Antoinette.  So I decided to theme the party based on a spin-off of that quote, because I’m obsessed with pie, especially those I don’t have to bake! 🙂  Now you all know how much I love baking, but the less I have to do of it in my current, very pregnant state, the better.
The banner is available for free download and printing at the end of this post.  I printed it on white cardstock and cut out around each with scalloped scissors.  I used some polka dot washi tape to attach it to the cinder block wall outside.
I stocked up on frozen EDWARDS® Whole Pies at Walmart in preparation for our vintage summer bash. These were definitely the stars of the show!

I made some simple labels, taped them to patterned paper straws, then inserted them into each pie.  All printables are available for free download at the end of this post.
The HERSHEY’S® Chocolate Crème Pie was my favorite!

I mean, who doesn’t love pie?  Especially when it’s cool and creamy, chocolatey and absolutely dreamy!  Our guests sampled some of each and then went back for seconds!  I served the pies with ice cold water in Mason jars with fun red striped straws for sipping.

I just had to include some wooden utensils in keeping with the old-fashioned theme.  Can you tell I’m in love with stripes?  🙂

The table covering was just a big piece of burlap that I pulled from my closet, with an accent piece of red gingham fabric.  It’s so happy and summery-looking!
The REESE’S PEANUT BUTTER CUP® Crème Pie disappeared in a hurry! Talk about scrumptious!

I placed each pie on a cake stand at varying levels for added interest.  This vintage-looking scalloped stand is something that I found on-the-cheap and spray painted a few years ago.  It’s a party staple!

We had such a fun evening catching up with friends over pie.  Everyone, both kids and adults, left with very happy tummies!

This party was definitely kind to my eight month pregnant body.  It was super simple to put together with hardly any prep or cleanup.  And, it involved all-you-can-eat pie!  I call that a win!

What’s your favorite EDWARDS® Whole Pies variety? I’d love to hear!

Visit EDWARDS® on Facebook for more great ways to serve up these tasty pies!
