Trick-or-Treat Loot Cake and BOO Your Neighbor Kit

Today I’m so excited to share two great ideas with you!  The ultimate Trick-or-Treat Loot Cake, loaded with colorful candies, that is sure to get rave reviews at your Halloween party, and the perfect BOO your neighbor gift!
Can I just tell you about the cake of all cakes?  The one that will make jaws drop in utter amazement and delight?  The one that will have party guests pouncing and fighting for the first slice?  This is that cake.
Every year when my kiddos trick-or-treat they come home with bags filled way to the brim.  Because of the over-abundance, I always take the liberty of grabbing a few handfuls for myself.  It’s my right as their mother.  🙂  They don’t mind, since they know their supply will last ’til long after Christmas anyway.  🙂
This is the perfect cake to make with leftover trick-or-treat loot or, if you’re like me and can’t wait that long, with the stash that’s meant for the cute candy beggars.  You can always replenish the stock later. 🙂  That’s been my rationalization over the years, and it’s worked out great! Ha!
This, folks, will be the star of the show wherever it makes an appearance.  And, it’s a real pleasure to make, if you know what I mean.
“Oops! This piece is a little misshapen.  I’ll take care of that.”  Or, “Oh no! This one isn’t the right color.”  Heeeee, heeee… munch, munch.
Yea, I don’t mind being the self-proclaimed “baker” in this house today.
For this dessert of all desserts, you’ll need plenty of SKITTLES®, STARBURST®, and LIFESAVERS® and some 7UP®.
I grabbed everything I needed on my last shopping trip to Walmart.  The seasonal candy aisle is quite possibly my favorite location in the entire store.  🙂

#booitforwardsweepstakes

{TRICK-OR-TREAT LOOT CAKE}
1 box (15.25 oz.) yellow cake mix
2 large eggs
1 can (8 oz.) or 1 c. 7UP®
1/2 cup oil
6 drops orange food coloring (optional)
Candy for decorating
A double recipe of Vanilla Buttercream Frosting or the same amount of vanilla or cream cheese frosting from the can
{VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING}
1/2 cup butter, softened
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Milk for thinning
Prepare cake by mixing together cake mix, eggs, oil, food coloring (optional) and 7UP®.  Pour into two greased 8″ round cake pans.  Bake according to package directions, then let cool for a little bit and remove from pans.  Let cool completely.
Make frosting by creaming together butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and a few tablespoons milk.  Add milk, a tablespoon at a time, mixing in between, until frosting is creamy and spreadable.
Place one cake round on a plate and spread some frosting on top.  Place the other cake round on top and frost completely.
I like to put all the frosting on top at first and then spread it down the sides.  Now decorate while the frosting hasn’t set.  Place LIFESAVERS® Gummies rings around the top, fill in with SKITTLES®, then unwrap STARBURST® and place on a diagonal all around the center of the side of the cake.   Slice and serve!

And then…with the leftover treats, you can go BOO your neighbors with this festive Halloween gift!

They’re sure to love this goodie-filled DIY BOO bag!

Start by painting two pint-sized Mason jars black.  You’ll need a few coats.  Be sure to allow them to dry in between coats.  Now hot glue various-sized googly eyes on one and write fun Halloween words on the other with a Chalk marker.
Hot glue decorative ribbon to the lids.

Aren’t they cute?
Write “BOO” down the side of a white gift bag with a bold black marker.  Or, cut the letters on a cutting machine, like I did on my Silhouette.  Transfer the letters to the side of the bag.  Attach the cute “BOO” tag with baker’s twine.  FIND AND PRINT THE BOO TAG HERE.  Place the “We’ve been BOO’d sign inside the bag.

  1. Cut out the “We’ve been BOO’d sign.
  2. Fold the “You’ve been BOO’d” greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together.
  3. Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles.
Now comes the really fun part!  Fill your jars with lots of treats, secure the lids, then add them, along with some 7UP® Halloween cans, to your gift bag.Save $1.00 on TWO (2) 2L or 6pk 8oz cans of any flavor Sunkist® Soda, 7UP®, Canada Dry®, A&W®, Squirt®, or Sun Drop® with THIS coupon.

—–
Now run and BOO your neighbors and friends!  But don’t let them catch you!
Who will you be BOO’ing this Halloween time?  I’d love to hear in the comments section below!
